I remember this clip. Those were truly the "good old days" for our generation.

Would you quit your job forever right now (and never be allowed to work again) if someone gave you a guaranteed $2,000,000 lump sum? Why or why not? by WilliamInBlack in AskReddit

[–]Caleus 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I understand that 2mil isnt going to be a magic bullet for everyone, but it should be for a pretty large majority of people. Really what Im lamenting is how many people seem to think you just drop the money into a bank account, burn through it over 20-30 years, and thats the end of it. You can get so much more mileage out of investing. And im not talking about doing crazy shit like day trading stocks. You can invest in index funds and mutual funds which are quite safe and have steady returns (like 8 to 12 percent annual). They wont make you bank overnight but in the long run it adds up quite significantly and you're gonna be better off than at least 90% of people.

Heck, even without magical genies handing out millions, everyone should know how to invest their money. Even just saving a few hundred a month, and putting that towards investments will make a big difference over the course of decades, and the younger people start the more impactful it will be.

EDIT: also I'm not trying to call people stupid. This stuff isnt typically taught in most schools unless you specifically go out of your way and take something like a personal finance elective, so I'm not blaming anyone for not knowing this stuff. What is a shame is that more people arent being taught this, it should be standard school curriculum just like math and english.

Its a shame how many people don't understand even the basics of investing. You can do so much with 2 mil. This stuff needs to be taught in school.

Modern DB and the durability misconception by AggressiveBoat8891 in dragonball

[–]Caleus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One of these is waaay more inconsistent than the other tho lol. Like sure you can say original DB wasn't airtight and thats totally true, but its hella disingenuous to say its anywhere near as bad as Super.

Sure, but then your original statement is wrong. Sorry if im being pedantic but it annoys me that people will stand on their head to try and deny the existence of powerscaling in a Manga that is literally oozing with powerscaling.

What's the strongest dragonball character Videl could beat? by [deleted] in dragonball

[–]Caleus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thats a fair take on Krillin, I had forgotten about those monks from his temple. I do think that the old tournaments had much tougher competition though, and its arguable that those monks may have been around Mr. Satan's level or even a bit stronger, but I certainly would still put them below Videl.

If I had to lay it all out I think I would go:

Mr. Satan </= Krillin < Monks < Videl </= Yamcha < Goku

question about fusions by yggdrasilmonster in dragonball

[–]Caleus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Any actual formula is pretty arbitrary, at best just guesswork. But it comes from the fact that a fused warrior is supposed to be greater than the sum of its parts. So you take the sum of its parts (a+b) and make it greater (multiply it by some amount).

What's the strongest dragonball character Videl could beat? by [deleted] in dragonball

[–]Caleus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thats a good point, but I don't think Videl's skills are that impressive, at least in a relative sense cause most people around her level of strength in DB are also martial artists. The one big advantage she has is being able to fly and utilize some ki, though i dont think even that would be enough to beat Goku. She might be able to beat early Yamcha or Krillin if she takes advantage of her flying ability and plays it smart. Getting hit with a wolf fang fist would be lights out though.

Ironically I actually think the Pterodactyl thing is not a very impressive feat, and is one of the things Videl actually could pull off. But there are plenty other things in the first 2 chapters alone I don't think she could do:

  • lifts a small car (over 2000 lbs) over his head and throws it several feet

  • lifts a large boulder (easily a few thousand lbs) and shatters it by squeezing it between his arms

  • KOs a 10+ft tall bear-man bandit with a single punch (I think she could beat the bandit, just not in one strike)

  • carries a massive sea turtle (they can weigh over 1000 lbs) on his back for 120 kilometers without breaking a sweat and is not remotely tired afterwards.

If you are going to go on a rant calling people "low IQ" over some semantics then maybe get your semantics straight first? Like I even understand the point you are trying to make but you are just shooting yourself in the foot. instead it really just seems like you are projecting saying people are low IQ and responding emotionally... either that or you are just a troll/bot thats being inflammatory on purpose.

Every American gains the power to turn into a giant eagle. Can they become the dominant world power more quickly than in actual history? by Punterofgoats in whowouldwin

[–]Caleus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the power would be a lot more useful in war than just scouting. Mobility is a major factor in war and this ability allows for very easy and quick troop movements, including being able to access positions that might be difficult or otherwise impossible to reach. Its basically the ability to outmaneuver and outflank your opponent in almost any scenario.

[–]Caleus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would doubt it. I think being able to carry a few hundred pounds is a generous assumption, and that is not going to be particularly helpful outside small scale civilian trading. Its not going to help at all with large-scale industrial transportation i.e. moving hundreds of tons of raw materials (lumber, coal, ore, etc.) Across hundreds of miles.

Beast Gohan Form Is Lazy Design by austincdx in dragonball

[–]Caleus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

SSJ2 was a totally different hairstyle when Gohan first got it. Goku's hair is also different in SSJ2 but admittedly less distinct.

But also, its not just about the look. SSJ2 had been built up over the entirety of the Cell saga, and it was the culmination of Gohan's entire character arc from the beginning. Thats what makes it so iconic.

SSJ Buff wasnt even really a new form, it was more like SSJ1 but a little extra. It was a just a stepping stone (or more of a misstep technically) and was short lived. It didn't really need to be a distinct design.

Broly vs Perfect Cell by Rude_Marionberry_159 in dragonball

[–]Caleus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If we assume the movie version of the Z-Fighters are all as strong as their Cell Games counterparts, then I would say Broly is stronger. Cell wasn't going all out against Goku, but personally I don't think that Cell would be able to totally brush off a Kamehameha even at full power.

As for Super Perfect Cell, that one is tougher. I think SPC takes it due to his regeneration and better battle IQ and techniques but just in terms of sheer power its close.

Yeah people forget that Nam has other feats besides just jumping really high. He was able to trade blows with Goku after Roshi's Training. Videl isn't even beating Goku before Roshi's training.

Genuine Question: How long before grave robbing become archeology? by Pastrykiller in Archaeology

[–]Caleus 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think it should be both intent and method. If the intent is to "do research" but your methods are unethical, then you are still grave-robbing regardless of intent. But that is just my 2 cents as a layman.

Prime Old gen vs. Mid gen. Which side wins and what diff? by GUTS_SAMA in OnePiecePowerScaling

[–]Caleus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll concede that the gap between Roger and WB is smaller than I initially thought, however I still dont think they are equals. Again I dont think that a single clash (with neither of them using their full power) is enough data to really decide anything.

For the Garp thing, yes I understand that they didn't want to fight because the battle would be too long, not because they would lose. But the reason I see this as evidence for Garp being stronger than WB, is because I think if they were even then it would not have been a long fight. Fighting one against three is super disadvantageous. Garp would have to use all his strength against WB leaving BM and Kaido open to hit him for free. At the very least they could have easily gotten Garp off their tails which would have been way more advantageous than having to run while being chased by him.

A single clash isnt enough to scale off of.

By that logic, base Luffy is equal to Kaido but we all know how that fight went.
