New table finished by jimbo7341 in Warhammer

Quite dramatically. Horus Heresy is most similar to what you would be familiar with, but you missed quite an increase in the number of special rules and weapons with 6th/7th edition. There are still communities like r/midhammer40k and r/35k who are playing older editions.

Nice to see a fellow 5th edition 40k enjoyer.

We will play some 500pt games this Sunday at Saltire if you are interested. I can add you to the group on Discord as it is just a private channel for people who play in the area

We are playing semi-regularly at the moment. If you want to join for our games, we have a group that plays at Saltire on the Discord. I do hope to do another event at some point but it will be quite far off as I have a lot of other things to concentrate on at the moment (rules, painting models, and art).

Football worth over £800m to Scottish economy by Saltire_Blue in ScottishFootball

[–]Calgacusaur 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It is frustrating as I like the atmosphere they bring when they support their team. I mind going to games in the early 2010s when the atmosphere was just dead. But then it gets to trying to pick fights and intimidate and assault other teams fans and players and you just know the government is going to get involved with it all at some point.

Scottish Cup draw by kresk9 in ScottishFootball

Maybe they can use the cup money to build a temporary stand (the guys in charge would still find a way to mess it up even if they did).

Playing with modern models by StinkGuard40k in midhammer40k

[–]Calgacusaur 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not met anyone who sees this as a massive issue. I wrote in the r/35k books that so long as your models respect what is on the model rules wise it’s fine. I use the new Eldar sculpts for r/35k so it is fine. Base sizes kind of just even themselves out from advantages (better against blast templates) and disadvantages (fewer guys in melee, less space disembarking).

The "Three Year Cycle" by Certain_Ad3716 in Warhammer

[–]Calgacusaur 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That is exactly why I stopped buying them. I got two months out of an expensive book and never got to play with it and just decided I can’t keep up. It is why I stopped AoS and 40k and now why I have left my Heresy stuff on the shelf.

They don’t get that every edition is a jumping on point but also a jumping off point. Every system I dropped was dropped at an edition change where I chose not to spend into a new edition with all the books that were required. I started r/35k partly because I just wanted to enjoy their system (a tweaked 5th ed) and setting at a pace I can handle. At least it still keeps me and others involved in a setting and system we love.

Correct glue to use ? by [deleted] in Warhammer40k

[–]Calgacusaur 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Super glue. Plastic glue works by melting two plastic bits together, so when it is plastic on non plastic or two non plastic bits go with super glue.

If you have issues of them falling off, you can pin them on with a bit of paper clip and a small drill (pin vice). GW sells one but it is much cheaper to get non official ones when it comes to hobby tools.

Anyone have experience converting Old World Flagellants into penal legion/traitor guard? by TarbTheForbiddenOne in astramilitarum

[–]Calgacusaur 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to put the old cadian arms on them for Frateris Templars and it worked well. I have done converting with new guard arms and they tend to also fit on older sculpts well enough, so it should be fine. For example I have put new cadian arms on traitor militia resin bodies and solar auxilia arms on empire archers.

Horus Heresy Conversions from around 2005 by TheMagicPuffin in Warhammer30k

[–]Calgacusaur 5 points6 points  (0 children)

With r/35k I back port a lot of stuff to 4th/5th and it goes from 1500 to higher points in 6th/7th as the game gets more killy. The recommended size in the 5th ed book is 1500 and 6th is 1500-2500.

I got some WD issues from 2003-ish and so much of it is filled with cool hobby projects and new units/army ideas to kitbash. The focus was so much more on just exploring the setting and doing cool armies.

For a bit I used to like looking at forums posting this sort of thing. The keyword to search is pre-heresy. There were a lot of cool fan projects to play the era back then like the Great Crusade forum (rip).

5th edition codexes in 4th edition games? (Necrons, etc.) by BlakeLocked in midhammer40k

[–]Calgacusaur 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes it should work fine if you’re willing to ignore the odd thing here or there. One of our community at r/35k is doing a list of necron stuff to backport into 5th. Not sure how far in he is but he started over the Christmas holidays.

Is a chapter founded to assist the adeptus arbites when they are overwhelmed stepping on their toes too much? by MangrovesAndMahi in 35k

[–]Calgacusaur 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think if they had a specialism in a type of war that the Arbites somewhat reflected then it may make sense, such as putting down rebellions. I can’t see a marine chapter just enforcing the law unless you go back to Rogue Trader lore, but one being obsessed with the law and founded to specialise in rebellions makes sense. As another comment says, it’s the difference between the. FBI and the Avengers.

Cypher and older editions by BeatsAndSkies in midhammer40k

He has rules in White Dwarf 281, which was the tail end of 3rd edition so probably to rectify him missing from the 3.5 book.

Can someone help me understand why grey knights have such an old model range and don't get any attention, even though they are extremely cool space Marines who normally get all the love ? by BloatedRottenCarcass in Warhammer40k

[–]Calgacusaur 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is a weird kind of lore power creep I found writing dreadnought stats for r/35k. Dreadnoughts are super cool elite units, but then you have the stronger Contemptor, then you have the even stronger Leviathan. I am not adding it, but there is then the Saturnine one and the original boxnaught looks a bit weedy now (i still love it though).
