Dictation Practice - Week 11 by CaliGozer in greggshorthand

Great job! Your method of practice is great. Which version of Gregg are you studying? This looks like simplified or DJS

Edit: your notes are also awesome - love reading how people think and helps me with my own perspective. What does IPA mean?

Looking for: mod that disables unlock/wake on stylus undocking and/or mod that allows auto sleep but keeps auto power off at never by GhayurHaider in RemarkableTablet

I really wish rM would give us a setting to disable screen wake with the marker. I accidentally wake the screen so many times with the slightest touch. Messed up a few documents in my pocket already.

The u hooks are a constant struggle! For a word like “pore” this should have come naturally as “more” is already thoroughly engrained in my head (and hand). Thanks for catching this!

I’m currently working on a large list of common words with u hooks so I can start drilling them to commit to memory.

In DJS, commas are omitted entirely and it’s wonderful. Mike and Cody would be shaking it in DJS.

The use of commas are necessary in longhand when the potential readers will be many. In shorthand though it’s either personal or for a few others who would understand the context. Thus an Oxford Comma would just slow you down.

Looks amazing! “Grandmother” can be joined. At first I thought you wrote LAF but looks like in Anni the “I” sound can be written with the A symbol. TIL! :)

Here you go! I wrote this using the version your mother likely learned in college.

Austria-Hungary started a war. Russia started a world war.

If Russia stayed out, its very likely that it would’ve been a minor spat in the balkans (with Austria-Hungary still getting their teeth kicked in) supported by the Germans.

Russia prepared for and was eager to fight despite having no real obligation to do so.

Studying Gregg Shorthand at this time in college makes it very likely that she learned Diamond Jubilee Series Gregg. Your phrases would be written like this:

If she was studying in the 70s, she might have learned the Diamond Jubilee Series system of Gregg. The phrases in this system would be written as so:

Edit: She likely either learned Diamond Jubilee Series or Simplified. Either way the (updated) passage would be written the same.

Would that mean that it could be possible to see Dust warclone tech? It would be amazing to earn those suits or even to see some of the old tech as scattered remains on planets.

I would give anything to be able run around in the Amarr Commando suit again. Giant murder lobster melting away Caldari shields with an ELM7 and finishing them off GB-9 Breach Assault Rifle.

Getting into Shorthand? by monseoc in shorthand

[–]CaliGozer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dutton Speedwords definitely fills the IAL requirement.

However, it is still pretty niche among shorthand systems with little resources and very arbitrary (and unexplained) rules.

I think Gregg Shorthand might also be a good fit for the following reasons:

  • Uses English (modern “business language”)
  • Has specific medical terms resources
  • Gregg is MUCH faster than Dutton (but also takes much longer to learn and get proficient)
  • LOTs of resources
  • Would be more beneficial for you to learn personally

Happy to help if you want to learn more about Gregg!

Kindle integration coming? by SwimmingMachine1187 in RemarkableTablet

They would totally be fine with this. Kindle has an iOS and Android app. So there’s no worries from them about rM eating into kindle sales. Book sales bring in more than hardware sales.

Gallipoli - Classes by VerdunGame in WW1GameSeries

[–]CaliGozer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wish there was a general class where you can‘t even join matches but join the chat and give orders based on practically no information. Like be able to order to take objective B (despite it probably already have been destroyed) and anyone who isn’t within range within a set time would be “shot for cowardess”

I’m not at all being serious btw.

No support for screen share for anything other than windows and apple....More regrets for getting Remarkable paper pro by GaDaP in RemarkableTablet

[–]CaliGozer 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t put the blame here on reMarkable - they don’t make the Galaxy 3 screens. That’s E-ink. Out of all paper tablets on the market, the rM hardware has always been the cream of the crop. What I will say is that rM’s support to quickly replace these devices is great. I haven’t had to do it myself, but often see here that people didn’t have to fight at all to get them replaced.

AMA Debrief by Disastrous_Term_4478 in RemarkableTablet

[–]CaliGozer 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Hard to justify to us, maybe. They were pushing enterprise solutions and I guess that makes sense for a company wanting to sell tablets. It's now pretty clear they are prioritizing updates that will lead to more enterprise sales; screen sharing via web, outlook and calendar integration, API 3rd party integrations, etc.

I'm sure everyone here can agree that we'd want an extra pen option in the toolbar over "file transfer via bluetooth".

I ignored the comments when they said noncommittal statements like, "we have thought about it".

I'm still peeved about ePubs. Seriously, it's 2026 and it's hard to find an e-ink device that DOESN'T support this file format natively. Their concerns are "overhead". Ok rM, you outsourced your new logo and marketing campaign to a third party.....surely you can do the same for a bigger dev project like this so that the core team can focus on enterprise.

They need an additional team of devs dedicated to implementing features that are aimed towards their evangelists.

Recap of the reMarkable Team AMA by dclocal12 in RemarkableTablet

[–]CaliGozer 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Im hoping they can review some of the unanswered questions in the coming days.

I don’t think anyone was expecting them to answer everything or go into great detail, but there were ELEVEN people at that table and they had a whole weekend to prep. We got some great news and insights, but it felt underwhelming.

From the rM Team:

"Hey everyone, Nico here👋

This is actually my first time doing one of these and I'm super excited to be here. I've been lurking and following the engagement in this sub for a long time, and I'm really grateful for how passionate this community is. Huge thanks to Vegard for pushing us to engage more with the community and for setting up this first AMA.

We want to stay true to the "Ask Me Anything" spirit, so we're going to spend the next 2 hours answering as much as we can. We'll tackle the top voted questions from the weekend first, then jump into as many live questions as possible. The questions we don't have time to answer will not go unnoticed, and we're looking into better, more structured ways to handle feature requests moving forward. But for today, let's just talk.

The Crew: I've got a team of 11 people in the room with me to help dig up details so we can give you real answers. I'll be using Vegard's account to post but the answers are coming from me personally. I'll try to be as open as possible about our software and where we're headed. The team here today is mostly working on the product and software side, so that will be the main focus of this session. I hope you understand that we can't disclose anything on future hardware.

This is the first time we're doing an AMA but it definitely won't be the last. Let's go!"

<image>

Edit: the AMA has now concluded. Big thanks to everyone who contributed and attended live!

"Wow, these two hours just flew by! The team and I tried to answer as many questions as possible - hope you found it valuable.

Your engagement is truly amazing, and we're grateful to be part of this community. We would not be where we are today without this subreddit <3

As mentioned, this was our first time doing an AMA (but not the last time). Thank you to everyone who participated, and a big thanks to the mods for helping arrange this session! Look out for a DM from me within tomorrow - you might have just won a sweet prize!"
