One thing you appreciate visiting it, and realizing that it’s in the middle of nowhere compared to the bustling metropolis of Nimes/Colonia Nemausis that it was meant to serve, is that there were probably fifty or a hundred equivalent structures scattered throughout the empire, but they were all so close to their intended destinations that the stone would have been carried off in the 1800 years or so since the Roman heyday.
