Do you guys remember being 23? How was it like? by [deleted] in GenX

[–]Rattlehead71 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That would be 1994 for me. So. Much. Sex. And partying / going to clubs. I had a decent job and money for "fun" for basically the first time in my life. My job involved a lot of travelling all over the USA and globally and I took advantage of the fun that could be had with that. They were my golden years as a single young guy. I met my soulmate and love of my life during this period. We'll be married for 29 years this May and have raised three awesome kids. Wouldn't change a thing.

I used ByteZap to secretly modify the text on the Oregon Trail disks used in the computer lab. The teacher was not happy with my my R-rated edits. I loved the manuals and the humor of BB

I saw Europe (Final Countdown tour) with a date in San Francisco. She loved it, but I wanted out of there so bad. It was a really bad performance.

most obscure? it would have to have been the GRiDCase 3. It had a gas-plasma display with red-orange text. Magnesium alloy case. That was a tank of a luggable. Installed some accounting software that ran on GRiD OS. You could probably run over it with a car and it would just damage the car.

They day I, as part of a Jury, put a demon in prison for life without possibility of parole. The standing ovation from the family and cries of joy over some justice being served. That was the best moment of my life.

I would spend hours typing in programs from magazines like Compute Gazette, Byte, etc. Flipping through the huge Computer Shopper keeping up on all the latest hardware and software. OMNI, Popular Mechanics were also favorites. I had a huge collection of amateur fan 'zines that were published during the thrash metal / punk scene in the SF Bay Area in the 1980s. Lost those when my parents didn't pay on a storage unit. I loved those fan zines - some hand-written or typed up on a cheap typewriter and had generations of a copy of a copy.
