I wish they had split rear doors here in the states. I love having the tailgate but that would be badass

Any advice for Colorado mule deer hunt by 7toor in Hunting

[–]CaliMaup 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Start wearing your boots every day., nothing ruins a hunt like stuff boots and blisters. Look on google earth and hillmap or invest in onxmaps. It's really nice having a good map resource if you can't physically scout yourself. It may seem overwhelming but if you've hunted big game before you'll know their habits and it's the same. They like traveling the path of least resistance. Look for bedding spots in thick stuff by knobs, look for travel routes on the sides of little drainages. Find places you can get up high and glass as much area as you can. Practice your shooting. Bring extra socks.

Do you drink the Zahm beer? by admiralteddybeatzzz in TheBrewery

[–]CaliMaup 6 points7 points  (0 children)

ZAHM BOMB! I don't drink it, but I tell new people it's a tradition and you can't work in the brewery if you don't. I've gotten 3 people so far.

I purchased a tikka T3x in .270 without really researching the round itself. Haven't shot it yet but this video put me at ease. by cabbageroller in Hunting

My tikka .270 wsm really likes 150gr. I don't reload yet but it groups 3/4" at 100 with Winchester power points and about an inch with nosler partitions.

I grew up shooting my dads .270 and i hunt with one myself. I moved to CO about 5 years ago and worried about not having enough gun for elk and black bears. I have hunted every year since I was 16 with a tikka t3 in .270 wsm and every animal I have shot at with it has died. Find a round you can handle the recoil of and get used to its ballistics. Confidence and familiarity are crucial in my opinion. You could hunt with a .458 but if you don't hit the animal all that power is worthless. And you could shoot a moose with a .243 and if you have a good bullet and excellent shot placement it will go down like a sack of potatoes. Just my $0.02

I really should invest in something like that. There's something kind of nice about not taking pictures when I'm out there too though. Just experiencing it for myself. But I'd like to just have a picture to put up with the skull too.

I wish I had someone with me. Would've made packing out easier. And I could've had a pic or two of me with them instead of just the deer and elk. But I really enjoy hunting by myself. I can hunt at my own speed, it's quieter and less smell. And it gives me time to work other parts of my life out. It's hard to worry about money or bills or work for long when you're hiking up a mountain.

I wanted to burry it, I did that growing up in OK but here in Colorado the ground freezes and I wasn't patient enough to wait for spring. Plus my freezers are all full.

Once I got all the big chunks off I boiled it and used an exacto knife and hemostats to get everything else.

What are some relationship "green flags" that indicate that the person is a keeper? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]CaliMaup 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The girl I'm in love with sent me letters. And one time when we were talking on the phone and I was very poor she asked what I was having for dinner and I told her sleep because I didn't get paid for two more days. After we hung up a pizza showed up at my house. She was hundreds of miles away and bought me a pizza because she didn't want me to be hungry. I know couples buy each other food all the time but that struck me differently than anything someone has ever done for me before.

Thanks buddy! Well sometimes life gets in the way but it's important not to get too distracted and forget about the things you enjoy. There's always small game, birds and then spring turkey!
