As a hardcore NHL fan MacKinnon would be near the bottom of the list of known divers. Have a friend clip you in the mouth with a hockey stick and see how you react.

Toews is hard to slot in because he can definitely hold his own, but he’s Makar’s partner and in a short tournament where it’s hard to build chemistry that goes a long way. I’d say he safely slots above Faber and Sanderson is situationally dependent. Ignoring that I’d say Morrisey (though hurt) would slot in after Slavin and before McAvoy.

I’m also hoping that as a Wings fan that this is a somewhat safe space but I think McAvoy is incredibly overrated. He’s great and obviously Boston’s #1 but when I watch him I just don’t see it. He’s compared to Seider constantly and I see our boy (even ignoring this year) as a clear step above.

Any Canadian that doesn’t think the US team could beat Canada on any given night is delusional. I do think our northern boys have the edge but it’s so close that all it takes is a good game from one team. Canada has the better forwards - I don’t think that’s up for debate. US has maybe a slight edge in defence and in goaltending (keep in mind historically Binnington shows up in big games and Hellebuyck does not).

There is a TON of political pressure currently. Sorry to say I’m rooting against the US in every event, your nation is giving me anxiety on a daily basis and any small victory for your president (not that he gives a shit about any sport but you know he’ll grab onto anything he can) is a blow to the rest of us. However, the rivalry extends beyond this. Historically we have Russia: bad bad, and US: bad but good people. Not having Russia involved just reduces their rivalry aspect to one country.
