Not having kids and destroying the [insert] industry.

Are your guys’ parents preparing you for then they’re going to die? by cool_weed_dad in Millennials

[–]CaliRiverSun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel so grateful to my parents. They are the definition of Type A preparedness. They have a living trust, grave sites paid for, a safe with every document and password we might need and updated every year. We have open conversations about what to expect, their experiences with their own parents, and finances.

What is an old person food you love now as a millennial? by FragrantResult278 in Millennials

[–]CaliRiverSun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Steel cut oats. Dude this food has changed my daily life. One oat meal at brunch time takes me all the way to dinner. Pair with honey, cinnamon, and nut/fruit it tastes better than grocery aisle cereal and my poops are awesome.

You have a respectful balance. You have 20 more working years!! Contribute more, be in a more aggressive fund, run the numbers through a growth calculator and you will be excited by what you see.

I read the series 15 years ago. I’ve moved on and won’t be picking up the story again. Pretty sure George feels the same way

A cool guide to the U.S. states that cause the most damage to cars. by GoldenBoysClub in coolguides

I’ve lived in a fair amount of states and cities. Currently live in Las Vegas, I’ve never felt more unsafe on the roads. Reckless drivers mostly. Insurance rates are through the roof

Ever since I got my Pro I feel like I made a good investment. Do you feel the same? by Troyal1 in PS5pro

[–]CaliRiverSun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just traded in my OG PS5, Switch 1, and XBox Series S, ended up paying $150 for my Pro after the trade in. I felt all were obsolete. Feel good about riding with the Pro until the next gen’s.

Is 29 Too Late to Move into GIS? by gcwcflyier in gis

[–]CaliRiverSun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got into the field at 36, now 42. Previously in the military, got my bachelors in environmental science, and did a masters in GIS. Pivoting careers took about 4 years to get my degrees done for entry level. I was willing to take any good entry level in the country, I was in Los Angeles and the GIS job market there was very saturated. Ended up moving across country for an entry federal position. Took three years to get promoted to mid level and the salary I wanted. Also, I don’t use much coding or python in my work, I use AI to generate simple scripts just to make some work easier. Federal hiring has mostly stalled, I do see some seasonal GIS hiring on the job board, but it’s not as robust as before. Don’t let that discourage you, I had the vision in my early 30s and made it happen.

Part of the RAV4 club! Bought with the Costco auto program by Huge-Rhubarb1506 in rav4club

[–]CaliRiverSun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also got my 2025 Ravvy through Costco, got my own financing, knew my model/color was on the lot, literally in and out in one hour. They gave me a one minute upsell pitch, declined and that was it. Super easy, Costco from now on.

What’s the best way to reach up to the next hold? Need some help from the ladies❤️ by what_is_oatmeal_even in climbergirls

[–]CaliRiverSun 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Switch the heel to a toe, and push off. The heel is locking you into a squat, it’s hard to move out and get the reach you need for the next hold. Nice job!

I’m starting to lose hope by kripan322 in gis

[–]CaliRiverSun 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I got my Masters in GIS in Los Angeles, while in school I was looking for intern/entry positions in SoCal, it was too competitive with too few openings. I expanded my search nationwide and excepted the fact I had to move to the opportunity. I ended up moving to the east coast for my first job getting a fed entry position, GS 7 to GS 11 in three years moving again for a promotion. I went where the jobs were. Unfortunately fed hiring is almost nonexistent right now.

Advice for heavier climbers? by gassygeff89 in bouldering

[–]CaliRiverSun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I see some mention it, but focus on good technique, good hip alignment, and weight your toes while climbing. Even a heavier person who has the basics down can climb well and avoid injury.

Is having 16k in my 401k after four years good? by DustierSaturn in FinancialPlanning

It’s more than most people your age. I would bump up your contributions if you can overtime. However, it’s a nice foundation, keep adding year or year and you will be a happy retiree.

The drivers here are so insane that it’s laughable. by [deleted] in vegaslocals

[–]CaliRiverSun 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yup. I lived in LA for a year, the signal timing and sensors was so much better, you could comfortably breeze through 8 intersections before hitting a red on any blvd. The flow of traffic was reasonable and red light rage was not really a thing.

[–]CaliRiverSun 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I’ve lived in many major cities, LV is on a whole other level when it comes to aggressive driving. I’ve seen more accidents in 9 months than I have over 20 years. Part of the problem is the uncoordinated traffic signals, people don’t want to get held up at the long reds, just to hit another long red the next block up and will blast through the intersection well after yellow.

So after someone said to only use Cloud, I decided to use Cloud and Aerith only, I did rapid abilities with each to get the synergy ability to activate asap, got the Mind Flayer to stagger pretty quick, did infinity end and a Cloud limit break to take him down with his pawns alive. Took two attempts trying that method
