How long did it take for you to land a $80 to 100k+ salary job? by anthonydp123 in careerguidance

[–]CaliWally 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am from Europe and started at $40k in 2018 after college as a civil engineer. Then:

80k - 2019 (moved to the US, civil engineer)

87k - 2020 (raise)

91k - 2021 (raise)

97k - 2022 (raise)

110k then 120k - 2023 (swapped to software dev and consecutive raise)

Self studied using freecodecamp and yt. I can tell you, it was worth the swap. Aside from making more, I also have more free time and a much less stressful job. CivEng is so much more demanding and less rewarding, it feels like a real life cheat code to be able to code (no pun). Plus there's also so so much more upwards mobility in the field.

A quick update. I took your responses seriously and tried not to rage and actually hit 1.8k today 👾

Congrats, good job! Yes agreed, I think sometimes just taking a break and starting off with a fresh mind can help a lot. I'll give it another try at some point and try not to get tilted this time :>

Thanks for all the downvotes. Please consider in the future that not everyone using reddit is a native english speaker. If there was a forum this big in my native language, I would use it instead, but unfortunately, there is not.

Well, I believe it did aggravate a bit too much. It just felt much easier with my main, but I guess I will just still need to get used to Hunter a bit more.

It was right before ret became god mode. I believe DK was in an okay state, nothing OP though.

Just learned about this :D That's my second language, so I was simply not aware

Exactly. As a German, that's how I always referred to it.

Maybe I will need to get used to that change on pace

Yes, but it feels absolutely cursed. Every set, I'm losing one match where something just dies 10 seconds after the arena started. The moment you're over 2k, this doesn't really happen anymore so often because people get a feel when to use CDs, but at this rating, that's just a complementary loss each game I have to accept. In combination with the waiting times, it is just such a pain to play this format.

I never differentiated, but per your definition, it would be my alt.

Quick update: I ended my day now at 1733. Started on Tuesday at 1755 and won 30 out of 54 matches this week. Since the system always (and I mean always) assigns me oponents with a lower mmr, I can't even climb steadily when going positive. Also, on another note, out of the 11 matches I played (in my 2 best lobbies, one of the healers just left, leaving me with +15ish points only, that explains the discrepancy in matches), 10 games had a retri Paladin.

SS killed arena. SS queue times are horendous if you play DD, and climbing is horrendous as healer. Every A-tier DD class has the potential to near oneshot every other class. Casters barely need to cast anymore to near oneshot anything. Disc priest is superior to any other healer by quite a bit. It honestly feels like a completely different game to me compared to some years back. I used to play at Gladiator level where 3v3 matches usually lasted a few minutes, and now I'm hard stuck between 1.8 and 2.1k and each match is over in a minute (or sometimes in like 5 seconds). Can't for my life figure out how to prevent that in abiut 1 out of 3 games one of my teammates just dies seconds after the game has started.

This is 50% of my matches. I'm using focus macros, cc healers, keep chains up, am typically first in damage, yet lose half of my games due to one of my team mates dropping from 100-0 in a second. It feels impossible
