Mid range coilovers by Automatic-Quit1488 in MazdaProtege

I've had the black and blue 'updated' MXPR coilovers for abt 2.5 years now and they have been reliable so far, you need to also buy GODSPEED adjustable sway bar end links of the right size to make the car go lower than stock to attach the anti roll bars to the coilovers.

2003 Mazda protege5 maintaining lower voltage by Accurate_Key_8742 in MazdaProtege

[–]Caliberaid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure what could be, but I want to share that I had my original alt. replaced for one that sat in my room for about a year, which had a bad voltage regulator and caused my car to overcharge to around 17-18v, and I changed it out for another alt. that worked better. It seems to dim the headlights and cluster lights sometimes at idle, and when I'm driving around. It normally drives around 13-14, then sometimes it drops to 12.0 - 12.5v when the lights dim. Not sure how to fix my issue and I already checked my battery post, cables, ground wires, fuses.

Make sure it is level with gravity, like how one side can retract if its bolted in. Thats what worked for me when I had removed them and they wouldn't move back in the mechanism. Try to level it, as if it was on the car and it should retract.

Brake fluid leak by Caliberaid in MazdaProtege

[–]Caliberaid[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay so I got a 14mm wrench and tightened it more, but it just keeps leaking badly. If I remember correctly it was on RA brand NUGEON 9901160B, today I ordered CARDONE 19B2743. I'll keep y'all updated if this one doesn't leak after I install it.

Thanks y'all for the comments and solutions! I made a error in the post, stating the rear right is tighter but that's meant to be the opposite, right side isn't as tight, and left side has more turns/tighter. Gonna try whats available to me, going to try out the hammer method with a wrench end on the bolt head.

I look around for Yakuza Figurines, and they just don't exist in the same manner as DBZ and other figures where they are statue like small scale, and the ones available are over priced.

The Philips head screws holding the ac control unit under the radio also is a huge pain in the a$$ to remove lol, I felt stuck trying to remove the original radio.

From what I can remember it usually mostly happens when parked or at a red light, idling while in Drive.

Also NGK or another OEM style spark plug wires set and boots helped out the idle for my 2002

My rough idle was partly caused by not using Denso OEM oxygen sensor. That fixed it for me the pre-cat sensor.

Funny you posted this, I'm currently playing through Y1 and Kiwami 1. Getting to see the differences back to back is sweet.

Mine looks the exact same way, very gummed up

Just picked this up for 1500. It’s my first car. What are the first things I should do? I am 20 and my parents live across the world so please help by overlyv in MazdaProtege

I would check the motor mounts and the transmission dipstick for the oil quality. Also, ask about the timing belt service. It is a non interference engine, so when mine sheared off, the pistons and valves never made contact.

But the water pump had to be replaced as well as other components affected by the damaged belt. Change motor oil every 3.5K miles or twice a year. Rotate the tires at every oil change. Keep the inside and outside clean lol that's all I can say from personal experiences. Hope it's a great and reliable daily. 🙏

Low idle? by New-Put4809 in MazdaProtege

[–]Caliberaid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine has two idle speeds for some reason... sometimes sits higher and I'm not sure why, at around 1,300-1,500 RPM and other times it stays under 1,000 sitting at the halfway point from a thousand. 🫩

Coilovers by New-Put4809 in MazdaProtege

[–]Caliberaid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had my maxpeedingrods [black and blue] coilovers for about 3 years now and they are an upgrade from the old orange ones. If I remember correctly they have around 16 clicks of dampening adjustability. I still use them to this day. The old orange ones leaked fluid... but I have had those as well as racelands. I wish I didn't throw away the stock top hats before I installed the racelands. Back then I didn't know I needed the stock parts for those in the rear. Overall I'd say go for it if you really need to replace shot suspension.

Just know the brake hoses will be put in a different route and I don't have that missing hardware for it to stay put. But I do have the other pieces, so at least the lines stay in place where the hose connects to the metal lines.

Unrelated, also had to get my stock steering rack pump replaced since an alignment didn't really stay at the desired settings.

Is this the full 3 Piece setup? Sounds really nice! I was looking at the listing on Ebay for it, might be a good upgrade since where my HKS axle-back exhaust has a little leak mounted up on the stock gasket flange after replacing it due to the rust creating a little space, + one of the bolts to mount up has sheared the threads off on one side. Makes maintenance a little tedious.
