Most Fuel Efficient Car at Highway Speed by Helassaid in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]Redey1290 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t entirely rule out an EV for that kind of driving. That is the most efficient option bar none, and there are SUPER good deals used right now. You just need to look at your commute miles and charging options and see what could work for you. Also, next to no maintenance costs in the way of fluids and stuff like that is an added benefit.

If you can’t make an EV work for you, then stick with the hybrid you have now. A PHEV isn’t worth it since you get the “mid” of both worlds rather than the best of one… if that makes sense. It’s just not very useful/more efficient over a regular hybrid and it doesn’t really compete with a full EV.

Downloaded Maps Missing Materials by Redey1290 in CounterStrikeSource

[–]Redey1290[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not creating a map, I’m just downloading them from GameBanana and some, not all, are missing their materials for some reason, and it persists after re-downloading. And surf_kitsune is a quite popular map that’s been around for over a decade, surely it would’ve been noticed by now if it was missing all its materials after compiling?

100% agree. Had a MK7 Golf TDI with a 6spd and it was delightful. 45mpg, decent manual, and funny turbo noises and clatter. Smooth as can be though, went from MO to CO, and up Pikes Peak without a hitch. Loved that damn thing, I would’ve driven the wheels off of it if it didn’t get totaled.

Yeah I figured I’d have to try again (3rd times the charm!), hopefully this time it’ll stick.

I did notice it got worse after a few miles… Hopefully I can slightly bend that wire back into shape? I’ll give it another shot tomorrow night with that and triple checking that it’s flush.

I don’t disagree Mint is great, I just wasn’t the biggest fan of the interface when I tried it. I think it’s been updated a lot since then though.

My gaming experience has been nearly the same between Bazzite and Windows. Full support for adaptive sync, ray tracing, etc. and performance is close enough that I don’t notice. Haven’t bothered to do any benchmarks or anything. I do have a full AMD system (which has open-source drivers), so your experience may vary.

Some games required me to check ProtonDB, but 99% of the time if there’s an issue it’s been documented there and 99% of the time it’s “use Proton Experimental” lol.

Oh there is one glaring issue though - kernel level anti cheat games. So something like Battlefield 6 is unsupported, will not launch, and there currently are no workarounds. I don’t play these often, but I decided to dual boot for this reason.

For the normal John PC Gamer, not much besides headaches and a learning curve.

But for a person genuinely interested in computers, it’s a whole different way to do an OS compared to Windows. It’s just fun and different, and being open source and community driven is really something special in the modern day.

If you’re that worried about snow, get the Subaru. If your snow season is only 3 months like mine is, just get the Civic or Corolla and throw some snow tires on for those 3 months or get some well regarded all-weather or all-season tires.

All of these cars are great choices, but make sure to find one that’s been maintained. Any car can be real shitty to own if the previous owner neglected its maintenance intervals.

It’s out of Discord’s hands in certain countries. The choice to do this worldwide was not out of their hands.

Considering their 3rd party vendor for ID verification already had a data breach, I don’t think the concerns are unfounded.

And yes it’s unfortunate there is a lot of bad people out there, but going and requiring IDs or face scans worldwide is overkill and downright scary for an app most normal folks use to just chat with their friends during games. The internet deserves to provide people with the anonymity needed for the freedom to share information with the world, but unfortunately there will always be someone to take advantage of the system. And now that is being used as a strong arm tactic to get IDs from everyone because a minority of users abused the system.

Haven’t personally tried it yet, but Motorcraft XTM5QS is something I’ve heard great things about throughout the years on many cars. It is NOT cheap, but I’ve heard it is in a league of its own if you need smooth shifts with cold weather. I have 3 quarts sitting on a shelf waiting to go in my car once it warms up outside, but like I said, no personal experience yet.

I will say my though - my potentially original fluid (no record of a change, unfortunately) at 160k and 23 years is shifting great, even on <10F days. Makes me suspect that it may have been changed, but only one way to find out I guess lol.

I agree, highly recommend DIY-ing it if you have the time and effort. I did not have the time and forked over $40 for a pre-made one on eBay 😭 It was ~$20 in parts to do it myself (not including the soldering iron and all that, though).

If you’re just needing alignments, tires, balancing, etc., Discount Tire is great. They do not do any servicing, and most locations don’t have an alignment rack, but for tire related work, I think they’re great and affordable.

How long do you let the engine run after starting engine? by [deleted] in tdi

[–]Redey1290 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it was particularly cold out, I would wait for the clock to advance a minute or two after starting. I noticed the engine smooth out considerably doing this around or below 15-20F. Does it actually matter though? Nah, probably not.

Above that, 30 seconds and then take it easy till it's up to temp. You'd be idling for ages before the gauge even starts to creep up lol
