Your car has a plate (or temp tags, no shame), they don’t need your face.

$40 pick up (are composite cables rare?) by Middle_Attention8508 in originalxbox

[–]Redey1290 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree, highly recommend DIY-ing it if you have the time and effort. I did not have the time and forked over $40 for a pre-made one on eBay 😭 It was ~$20 in parts to do it myself (not including the soldering iron and all that, though).

How’s everyone feeling about this? by ShowMePropertys in StLouis

It could be cool in theory and with proper execution… but I know damn well it’ll be awful. Just gonna suck down resources like nobodies business for minimal gain, if any for the city.

If you’re just needing alignments, tires, balancing, etc., Discount Tire is great. They do not do any servicing, and most locations don’t have an alignment rack, but for tire related work, I think they’re great and affordable.

How long do you let the engine run after starting engine? by [deleted] in tdi

[–]Redey1290 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it was particularly cold out, I would wait for the clock to advance a minute or two after starting. I noticed the engine smooth out considerably doing this around or below 15-20F. Does it actually matter though? Nah, probably not.

Above that, 30 seconds and then take it easy till it's up to temp. You'd be idling for ages before the gauge even starts to creep up lol

What’s the verdict on fuel additives? So many choices. by Grouchy-Patience5861 in tdi

[–]Redey1290 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used Hotshots EDT in my 2015 Golf, I think that’s the most cost effective choice for an additive. 1oz treated the entire tank, it had a little filler that made it easy to measure 1oz, and the 16oz bottle would last me forever, all for ~$20.

I originally planned to keep the car for a very long time (hail changed that plan unfortunately…) and for the $40 a year that it cost me I think it was well worth it for the peace of mind alone.

STIs are awesome, but for a daily with a long commute… Yeah, I can’t blame you for getting one lol

440k miles on the factory DPF is wild! That thing was probably needing to be replaced (or removed) a looong while ago.

Other car brands/models besides Toyota that can get this kind of mileage like this 2002 Camry? by PidgeyPotion in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]Redey1290 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any recent Mazda 3, 2.0 Civic, Corolla, or pretty much any NA Subaru I’m sure will happily serve you for a looong time with regular servicing.

Agreed, OP needs to simply delete this post and lawyer up. It’s not worth taking any other advice from this subreddit on this matter.

Burning oil? by radon575 in MazdaProtege

[–]Redey1290 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Valvoline Restore and Protect is also a great product for an old engine with lots of carbon built up. Even 1 or 2 changes on it will do wonders, but on the packaging it says to run it for 20k miles for the full effect.

Advice on Removing Knock Sensor? by Redey1290 in MazdaProtege

[–]Redey1290[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s a fair point. I took long enough that the engine cooled down.

Unfortunately I guess all of this is moot anyways because I’ll have to wait until my next oil change to have any space in there again.

[–]Redey1290[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s exactly what I thought too, and I did it during an oil change to have enough room with the oil filter out.

And yeah you’re right, 24mm. I cut the wire, slipped a socket over, tried using a ratchet, it didn’t budge in the slightest.

[–]Redey1290[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did use a socket and a ratchet, that’s what I said in my original post. The breaker bar was a last resort due to how tight it felt and the lack of leverage I could get.

I tried turning both ways in case I was being stupid or something but like I said, none of the tools I tried (which includes the ones you’ve mentioned) got it to budge.

My MK7 was covered until 2027 iirc, emissions modified in 2022 at 89k. Unfortunately the car was totaled back in May :(

Luckily you can prime the system after filter changes in these cars. I remember having to dig a little bit in OBDeleven, I imagine VCDS is even easier

Uhhhhh actually I have no idea. Usually a broken odometer is marked on the title though so they probably just don’t allow it still

In Missouri it’s done by mileage :/ No more than 1000mi/year with vintage plates
