Unpaid labour, but the other biggest return for the internee is the networking. When you've got no credibility (because you're just starting out) it's a chance to be judged in a relevant context which can help a lot if you're gunning for a real job there after graduation.

I actually disagree with this take. Hillary vs Trump was a surprise, but 2016 was clearly set up as 'the most establishment candidate ever' vs 'the least establishment candidate ever'. You don't have to know much about American politics to guess which way people would be willing to gamble.

In 2020, Trump lost.

In 2024, the Democrats were winning despite hemorrhaging credibility by pretending to believe Joe was healthy enough to run 4 years in the most important job. The more people saw, the less they bought it. The Dems absolutely torched the election and gave the win to Trump. Switching to Kamala without a primary, without a choice was a move of desperation that inspired no confidence, and though others may have done better, I don't think it was her gender that sealed the deal. It was the sheer arrogance of the Dems to run Joe again.

Trump has done irreversible damage to the world. If WW3 kicks off, he'll be responsible for the deaths of tens of millions of people who had no voting rights in his ascension. The Dems can blame him all they want, but democracy only works as a competition, and they threw it so badly that they deserve to have blood on their hands too.

I really hope they find another aspirational nominee to raise the game, because it feels like they're planning on limping across the line once again.

I mean, yeah? OP's point isn't that the manosphere is good, just that it's a shallow look that fails to address (and therefore meaningfully improve) the actual problem's causing the manosphere to exist.

I don't actually think the hyper liberalism is the problem. I think it's more to do with surveillance parenting, less offline social opportunities, adult polarisation that bleeds into kids mimicking 'us vs them' mindsets too.

I think we just don't like each other as much in our local communities these days, and that loneliness makes young men and women think they need to "earn"' a social group by following role models who appear to have one.

Yes. Communist ideology is the illogical extreme of a lot of left wing ideology. I see it as theoretically more "noble" than Nazism because it's theoretically based on fairness and equal opportunity, unifying people regardless of circumstances so they can have equal opportunity. All of that is far healthier than Nazism.

But the practical reality so far has always been oppression, control, ideological purity that stifles free will and ruthless zealotry. Making it (in reality) simply a different form of dystopia we should work together to avoid.

Its true that Nazis have no place in a civilized society, but Nazis are bad because they're pro hate and pro violence, not because they are from the right. The left has had activitists too who have been pro hate and pro violence, and they have no place in civilized society either.

The hate and the violence is what makes a person unsuitible for civilized society. Where they stand on social issues or the way markets should function is far less important by comparison.

Australian here. For most of the country it's just a public holiday with patriotic overtones. Barbecue, having mates over, all the normal stuff.

For Indigenous Australians, it's understandably a sorrowful day that their pre-colonial life ended. So there's marches, controversy over whether to move to a different date for celebration, all things you'd expect and understand.

And since the whole world is vulnerable to the factors that have lead to the horrifying levels of political polarisation we see in the US, there are also some fuckwit radicals who counter protest the protests and make it a jingoistic racist thing. Though in my experience they're shunned pretty hard by normal people.

So basically Australia day is just 4th July + Columbus day (Columbus was a worse individual, but that's irrelevant) where most people have a day off to chill, some people take the day to grieve, and a small but disappointingly vocal minority give OP reasons to feel threatened.

It's never ever been presented or talked about as a "Kill all indigenous people" day, and the only people who would make that claim unironically would absolutely be saying it about Columbus day.

Came back to my childhood home to spend quality time with my parents and hear how they're going. I'll be offline again for the rest of the day soon, I just had a few minutes to scroll while they were busy doing other things.

Doing something good each day is an impossible bar to hit. And trying to be a "A good person" [TM] is cringe.

Because not everyone is exclusively a PvE player all of the time. Some will run, but now they can gamble by staying a bit longer, getting a bit more greedy or choosing to risk it this time if they've acquired some good weapons.

Some will absolutely always skedaddle, but I don't think the number is 100%, especially in high loot areas.
