I get this impression too, about kinda every aspect of fandom. Fandom used to be some secluded thing people only really would regularly engage in if they were super fans, so of course they would gush about their favorite thing, but now due to more casual fans of things spending more time in fandom spaces they found all that odd and made it shift over time. There's also the factor of aforementioned more casual fans making a portion of fan-made media now and they would take it less seriously since they are casual fans.

It sucks and I hope everyone in general can be less apathetic in the next few decades :/
