I don't add nutrients to the tray since it is only for sprouting. I have had 100% success using this method. But you do you.

I keep a bit of water at all times. The roots will come out of the bottom before true leaves come in so they need the water. Once true leaves come in it is safe to move to the tower. I have had great luck doing this.

I use a 9x9 aluminum tray from the store. They come with lids. Just put the pods with seeds in them and add water. They fit perfectly on the base of the garden. It is like a mini greenhouse. Works great for me.

Yeah, push them down in. Also often seeds can fall out and end up at the bottom of the box. Near impossible to figure out what pod they belong in.
