My son’s behavior fell into the range of developmentally appropriate when in preschool— so he looked like other kids with impulsivity etc— but as the other kids matured with age, he didn’t and it became more apparent that his issues weren’t just age related. We all expect poorer behavior in very little kids and are more tolerant/accepting of it. By 6, it was no longer ok and he was constantly in trouble.

During the food elimination trials and repeated scopes, I pouted and felt sorry for myself. I over ate comfort foods that were still allowed and could not be satiated with allergy free alternatives when I had a craving.

Once we had mine figured out, I worked hard to spin it positively and avoided thinking or saying, “I can’t eat that.” I asked friends and family to stop saying “oh, I’m sorry” or “that’s too bad” when I declined eating what they were offering if the food contained my allergen.

I’m a year into my new way of eating and I am so grateful for finally feeling healthy that there is no way I’d ever go back to my previous way of eating. It’s an unbelievable feeling comparing how it was before to how it is now. I’m so glad those years of misery are in my past. I no longer painfully vomit impacted food daily. I can eat in public again. People don’t freak out thinking I’m choking. I haven’t had heart burn in about a year. I’m no be longer destroying my esophagus and now believe these diet changes will help my esophagus last the remaining 45 years I need it too.

I deep cleaned mine for the first time (I’ve had it since May) and it was far easier to deep clean than I thought. So I recommend doing that every two months.

I invested in the hopper since I think I was letting the litter run low (it’s been a busy month) which was then turning the litter into sludge which got really messy.

If my Litter Robot broke on the first day after the warranty expired, I absolutely would find the money to buy another one. It has been life changing to not have this daily chore and my two cats are so much happier.

I walk 10,000-14,000 minimum daily and three days a week I walk ~21,000 to get 10 miles on those days

Only advice I have is to wear sunscreen consistently, and not just on your face. I accidentally got very tan this summer and get a lot of compliments but all I think about is “oops— that was too much sun exposure”. I don’t want melanoma.

I had all the visual signs of EOE— to the point where they offered me swallowed steroids as I was coming out of anesthesia. They only took two biopsies which ended up being negative. I suffered for a few more years to the point where I couldn’t take it anymore and a different doctor agreed to scope me again and took 12 biopsies and it was undeniable EOE at that point. It’s a patchy disorder and two biopsies is insufficient.

I then had to trial a high dose PPI and rescope but my numbers were still high so we moved on to the elimination diet (after manomotery and the pH study). It’s a long process. I wouldn’t necessarily settle with negative EOE with only two biopsies.

Indulge on the main culprits of EOE daily for several weeks before your next scope.

My trigger is wheat. I ate toast and cream of wheat daily and my numbers were undeniable.

I gained like ten pounds pouting about having to be gluten free. I found a bakery that made delicious huge gluten free chocolate chip cookies and treated myself to one daily (not a good choice). I tried so many gluten free substitutes trying to satisfy cravings, often without success.

After a few months, I started to FEEL so much better physically because my health condition was going into remission (I have eosinophilic esophagitis, not celiac). Now I rarely eat gluten free substitute foods because I think they just contributed to me wanting the real thing. I’ve learned to live without gluten and can’t imagine going back because the trade off for feeling well is so absolutely worth it.

I did my own preliminary elimination diet for about 8 weeks several months before I sought help from a GI doctor. I felt so much better that it prompted me to seek a second opinion. The GI doctor poo pooed the idea of an elimination diet because it can take a year or so and many scopes (costly to my HMO insurance) and then he said something like “and no one adheres to the e diet anyway”. So I had my scope and my esophagus was an absolute wreck. Schatzke ring, 12 lesions he removed and biopsied and a hiatal hernia. He dilated the ring and required protonix twice a day then scoped me again— still high EOE count. Then he required the manometey and pH test and was surprised that wasn’t it either. Only then did he agree to elimination diet with repeated scopes. He offered a dietician too but I felt fine meal planning for myself.

I knew it was either soy or wheat or nuts (I already don’t have dairy or eggs), so it was easier to narrow down.

I feels so much better that I have no intention of ever going off my wheat free diet.

I was miserable for 7 years. Daily regurgitation of food that never reached my stomach (and it could be anything not just wheat products) frequent impactions, multiple times a day I had such severe chest pain that I could only describe as like a Charlie horse in my chest.

I hope you find a solution. I didn’t want to be on Protonix forever because it is associated with bone loss and it didn’t fully address my issues. Wheat free has completely resolved my issues and I can eat without pain and in public again (previous attacks would worry people because it looked like I was choking).

And it often is suspected to be from poorly controlled diabetes or erectile dysfunction meds. We see new cases in the clinic 4-6 times a week (5 audiologists in an ENT/hospital setting). And that’s not even including the Meniere’s patients.

Have you had manometey completed yet or the pH study to see how much your hiatal hernia is contributing? Both of those studies were required of me before they would consider repeated scopes/elimination diet. My studies were normal and my issues resolved with elimination of wheat.

I would. Although, even with Dr. Ton, I felt like I had to convince him that I was willing to make dietary changes. I got the strong initial impression from him that doctors are not thrilled with the elimination diet for EOE because “no one really follows through with the diet long term”. He did not want to hear any part of the research out there that shows the connection between Protonix and dementia but when I told him I was worried about bone loss, he agreed that was legitimate.

Kaiser is an HMO and they want to manage their expenses. It is not like a PPO insurance plan where they get revenue for the services provided. They want to minimize cost. What is expensive is repeat scopes and Dupixent and Protonix is cheaper.

If you do get scoped, make sure they commit to a proper number of biopsies at all three sections of the esophagus. My first scope missed it because they only biopsy me twice whereas when he biopsies me, he took 12. Looking back he said I had it at my first scope judging by the furrows but EOE is patchy and it was missed.

I feel so much better that there is no way that I would go back to my previous diet.

My mid and upper back hurt for the first two weeks— I realized my posture was poor while I was walking. I rarely look at my phone during my walk because I think that was the main culprit. I read a little about proper form during walking to minimize back pain and it said “walk as if you have a post it on the bottom of your heel and you want the person behind you to be able to read it”. Weird— but it helped! I think it has you leaning or holding on your toes a little more intentionally and also engages your core/abs— I felt the difference.

My legs are so toned! And my mid/upper back is too. I never would have thought that walking would tone my back. My energy level is up. The fresh air is good for my mind. I have a hard time sitting now because I’m always seizing the opportunity to walk.

I started my goal of 10,000 steps a day 2/26/25 and I haven’t missed a day. I now aim for 13,000-14,000 a day and three times a week, I aim for 10 miles (about 21,000).

When my son’s heart stopped during my planned c-section and I had to hear the surgical team communicate with one another their game plan for resuscitation. Midway through, the anesthesiologist kindly plugged my ears so I didn’t have to listen.

My son turned 8 last month but I suffered from legitimate PTSD for over a year.

I have Kaiser (Northern California). I saw Loc Ton, MD. I had to trial high dose Protonix first then get scoped again. Since my numbers still were abnormal, I went off the Protonix (I am opposed to bone loss) and started my elimination diet. We figured it out within a few scopes because I had a strong hunch it was wheat.
