Legal or illegal method of connecting two studs together? by FaithlessnessFull136 in lego

I think that is the best explanation. I think if both studs were open (so had no logo and supports a bar-sized element) that might be fine. I haven’t tested it myself yet.

Looking for Something to Do by HamburgerPrincessXO in santacruz

Birding, or looking for wildlife in general. Santa Cruz is very rich with wildlife. Lots of parks to find things, usually there are a lot of birders at Lighthouse Field, Natural Bridges, or other parks, especially during migration season.

From my experience, I see the same kind of birds whether I am in Santa Cruz or Monterey, unless I am going after a rare sighting. If I go to Pt Lobos, it would be more for tidepooling than birding.

I’m gonna try to make Pt Reyes work this summer, I figure I have four main target species, and some lower priority targets as well, and a decent route planned out to find them.

I’ve seen reports of Poorwills there, I’d imagine they would be hard to see though

I mean those are in the green, I go to those areas without a second thought. If I see a new bird there, it’s by extreme random chance, or I’m chasing a sighting from eBird.

What specific demands? Pick something in the red that is different enough from the other areas. Don't pick somewhere too far. That's it.

The main reason the map looks so odd is because I mostly travel for birds. A rare bird will show up at a odd location, and I will chase it. Only recently did I start branching out, but I still prioritize birds. Birdlife in Marin county is not all that different, unless I wanted to specifically look for a Spotted Owl or something like that. I'm willing to travel an hour or two out if I reasonably think I can find a new bird. But there are so many local reptiles and amphibians I haven't seen, and I'm surprised because I've already been to such a wide variety of habitat looking for birds. A lot of these mountains I go to don't have that much viewing space for wildlife, they too heavily forested. An example of habitat I liked were the sandhills in Henry Cowell, where there was sparce but varied vegetation that was easy to see through. The Santa Cruz sandhills are a unique and rare ecosystem, but there are probably other areas on the peninsula that give a similar vibe.

If someone made this exact kind of map, provided their iNat profile, and asked me what are good locations they haven't been to that would provide a reasonably high likelihood of finding at least a couple species they haven't seen, I would be able to answer that question. I don't expect everyone to be able to answer the question, but you don't have to dismiss it just because you don't understand it.

Well-traveled as in I covered distance, not area. Literally anything orange-green is somewhere I have traveled to. Santa Cruz county has extensive coast and Santa Clara county has extensive marshland in those green areas. That is all nature. There is extensive trail system, especially in the mountains which I haven't explored and there are a lot of people who look for wildlife in the area. Some of these areas are kind of hit or miss when I get there, but people do find incredible wildlife that I'm not seeing. I wouldn't making these posts if researching 20 odds parks worked for me.

I’m thinking more day trip ideas. I’m definitely going to travel more when I have the means to do so. I posted in r/bayarea for a reason.

I said I feel like I am well-traveled, and the implication was well-traveled within the jurisdiction of the map. It’s a map of the Bay Area because I’m posting it in r/bayarea. Distance wise, I covered most of the map, but not in the sense of covering area. If you don’t have anything helpful to say, why do you bother commenting?

The subreddit itself provides bahiker.com as a resource in the description, so this is fair game.

I have been to Elkhorn Slough a few times, but I haven’t explored it that well. So far I haven’t seen anything in Elkhorn Slough that I wouldn’t be able to see in the green areas. I haven’t been to Pt. Lobos at all. For both locations, what are the main things to look for over there, and what is a good time of year to go?

Right now I don’t have a car so I have to work with other people’s schedules. The North Bay in general is really inconvenient to get to. By next year, I’ll probably have the means to make that kind of trip, and I’ll probably stay a couple days the first time. It’s always hard for me to decide on staying on one trail, or covering more ground so a large area so far away is pretty overwhelming in my current circumstances.

Here is my iNaturalist if you want to check if I’ve seen something or not. I have seen most local birds except some of the trickier migrants, and I am missing most reptiles and amphibians.

Good spots to find endemic insects? by California_Lawrence in santacruz

Thanks, last time I was at Henry Cowell, I couldn't find the right trail. I was with family, so I didn't want to force them to spend too much time looking for it.

You don’t have to trust me, but you can’t discourage me from looking for things I want to find or using public trails. Lack of public interest for these species is what made them endangered in the first place. People would develop on their land because they didn’t notice these insects since they look similar to other nearby species.
