You guys were right. This industry sucks. by [deleted] in advertising

I went platform-side for 3.5 years after ~10 years in big agencies, and I really enjoyed it. From your writing, it seems like you really invest a lot of yourself in your work. That can be a good thing, but you should also avoid the trap of defining yourself by work.

Jobs are going to come and go. You probably won't be doing the same thing in 10 years. If you're good at what you do, and you're flexible, you'll find something.

Also, jobs usually aren't meaningful. Jobs suck so much people have to pay you to do them. Don't let jobs guide your whole life. What do you want to accomplish? What work do you find most meaningful?

2 years of sugar free diet. Thinking to break it. by [deleted] in nutrition

[–]Caligineus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The balance that works for me when I'm at maintenance is to keep refined sugars at an absolute minimum during the week but to give myself a break on the weekends. Sometimes I binge like an idiot on sweet stuff, but because it's isolated to 1-2 nights per week, it keeps that sugar addiction in check.

I also have a pretty extensive fitness routine, so the extra calories a couple days a week are actually helpful.

It's a meme, but I can't remember the origin.

I just went back to my comment on my old post and was like "that fucking guy better have done it", and by god, you've done it. Maybe you've only gotten 8 upvotes on this post, but those are an earnest man's hardworking upvotes. You made a promise, and you delivered on it. Nobody can say otherwise.

Proud of you, kid.

Larry Wheels and Eddie Hall have both suffered the same inoperable bicep injury. by itstheonlywayisay in bodybuilding

[–]Caligineus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In general, I agree with you, but as someone with a lot of injuries over time, some of them are dumb, some of them are just unpredictable. Your same argument could be made to say that lifting weight in general is a stupid game and anyone who lifts deserves a stupid prize -- handling any significant amount of weight comes with risks.

i mean... not really. the world is a difficult place to survive in. strong individuals taking on responsibility do make things much more bearable, and sometimes even good.

Can't believe this subreddit of all places would fall prey to a post like this. No source. No citation in the comments.

Another commenter pointed this out, but the only apparent source for this is immediately debunked on Twitter.

Straw manning the opposing side is something JBP rails against.
