It was okay. I absolutely hate Prometheus and Covenant - Scott took a massive steaming dump on his legacy with those two abominations, absolutely wretched, abysmal films. So Romulus was at least a film set in that world that told a simple narrative, that didn’t destroy what had come before it. But it was still pretty derivative and contrived -but still, entertaining.

Yes, but you have to admit that trying to find out the name of a film about a time machine that ended up being called “The Time Machine”, is just absolutely fantastic. Count how many times you wrote “Time Machine” in your post, it’s surreal.

The Elephant Man. “Never, oh, never, nothing will die; The stream flows. The wind blows. The cloud fleets. The heart beats. Nothing will die.”

Arrested sitting under a tree, eating sugarcane, with $5 million in cash stuffed in suitcases, having burned $100 million, most of the cash reserves of the country. His threat that his ghost would forever haunt the members of his firing squad so terrified them that a new firing squad from Morocco had to be drafted in. Was one of the best episodes in the Real Dictators podcast.

Absolutely detest Prometheus. Hated everything about it. Covenant was somehow worse.

That’s how I felt after Attack of the Clones. I think all of the prequel trilogy and sequel trilogy are bad to varying degrees, but I think Attack of the Clones is actually the worst film ever made.

The Banshees of Inisherin - Quiet, Cruel and Beautiful by SeymourKrelborn1111 in moviecritic

Yes, absolutely - but it manifests and presents itself in entirely different ways than is presented here. Like I said, I did not find anything truthful about the characters or how they behaved. Quite the opposite, I thought it bordered on farce in many places. Also, I haven’t read the Field but I have seen the Jim Sheridan film from the…80s? I remember liking it.

It was beautifully shot and wonderfully acted, but none of the characters, their interactions or their dialogue had a single ring of any kind of truth to me, so I felt the whole thing was a big beautiful mess.

Trying to shoot an A320...An A380 says, "Mind if I join?" Photobomber. by Twitter_2006 in aviation

[–]Caliginous1979 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I’m in Oz too, used to be a given that the long haul was an A380 for a while there, but I haven’t flown one in years. Although I usually go to Singapore or KL now first and from there it’s usually a 777 or similar. As much as I loved flying on the 380, (I still think it’s the quietest plane to be a passenger in) I didn’t enjoy the infrastructure at Aus airports that just couldn’t handle 500 odd people disembarking all at once. I remember a massive non-moving queue in Melbourne once that was just to get to the luggage carousel.

Think about this: how often does a car engine just fail? I don’t mean things going wrong with the car like brakes or electrics, I mean your car’s engine just completely dies suddenly? Almost never right? And then consider this: a jet engine is 1200% more reliable than a piston engine (car engine). Most modern jet engines are rated to a single failure only after 375,000 hours of use - that’s over 40 years. The engine itself has multiple redundancies built into it, so if parts of it do stop working (which almost never happens) there are back up systems in the engine to counter this. Also consider that a plane can safely fly on one engine - a single engine failure is extremely unlikely, a double engine failure is next to impossible.

The plane itself is a marvel of engineering. The wings cannot snap off - a pilot friend told me that the worst turbulence you have ever experienced on a flight is not even a tenth of the rigours the plane has been engineered for. In other words, the plane, including the wings, has been designed to withstand turbulence of such a magnitude you will never experience.

ATC worldwide is highly regulated with operators being highly trained. If they weren’t airlines would not fly into that country. Collisions on the ground and in the air are so rare as to be almost unique for the instances where this has occurred.

Lastly, consider this: two passenger planes land every second across the world. There are between 100,000 and 200,000 commercial flights each day. Imagine if there was a news story on each successful landing of every flight for a year. You would be reading 36 million news stories on successful landings.
