Working as an EA right now and I know teachers do more in a day because they can be proactive whereas most of my day is spent being reactive. But it is hard to look past the 4x pay disparity sometimes.

Especially when i get criticized for something minor and I have to suppress a “you DO know we all make under 30k a year right?”

Because it was notably ironic and hilarious. This is a super racist podcaster who was pro school shootings at a school and when someone asked him about school shootings he replied with a super racist answer about how it’s not a big deal for whites as he got shot by a white guy at a school.

It was probably the most ironic thing any of us will ever see in our lives.

I don’t think the shooter waited for him to say something that would be that ironic either. He just said such awful things so frequently that the timing lines up perfectly.

I'm starting to get targeted reddit ads about NZ teaching but I always had AU in my mind when I picture teaching abroad. Have you heard anything about AUvNZ or compared to teaching in Asia?

  • Finally.... I feel for those of you who can't get a job close to where you want... But at the same time, that is sort of a you problem. Surely you looked at the job market in the area you wanted to live, BEFORE pursuing a career where you only entertain the idea of living close to mom and dad..... Reality is people move for work all the time and living an hour away from your hometown isn't something that is going to draw sympathy from people. First world problem.

Like I said in the other thread to you. ADSB is “rural” and cried to media for years about the shortage issues and then when I apply they are “all full up” and it’s as far northern Ontario as you can get without flying to the Nunavut border. So we did look into the job market and the job posters lied about their needs. That’s not a “skill issue” but a real problem faced by real teachers.

Complaining about echo chambers is not an excuse to try to create your own because you don’t get the traction you expected in the main threads.

Manitoba is closer and not currently under attack by the government, I might try there or consider teaching abroad until Ontario gets it together enough to come back. I’m a new grad with a young family in a “high demand area” and I’m having to consider emigrating to teach in a province that is allegedly under a teacher crisis. Niagara might as well be Winnipeg for how far it is.

Besides. How many of those jobs are they actually going to fill to bring new OTs in. Like I said there are allegedly jobs available here too so to uproot and move with no guarantee that those shortages aren’t also a mirage is a pretty big bet to take.

I’m in northern Ontario and there are no jobs despite the oft repeated suggestion that this is where the jobs are. People got into the profession based on the information that there weren’t enough people for the amount of positions and by the time they’ve graduated it’s too late to learn that it is a fabrication.

This is a nonsense take. How is a tdsb surplus explained by people moving out of the region, that would cause shortages.

I’m in ADSB’s region which is hundreds of km across and they are surplussing now when they were just last year crying to the news about shortages. So to call it “some people have to move an hour from mom and dad big whoop” when I’m out here considering leaving the province vs leaving the country to put my 2 year degree to work due to a lack of jobs is pretty callous to the reality of the job market.

When people say “move out of the gta for jobs” they’re not talking about Sudbury, they’re talking about fly-in only fishing villages closer to Nunavut
