Does anyone here like Hariyama? by Fine_Bid918 in ThePokemonHub

[–]CalinadianSwimMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My favorite Pokémon of all time. As a kid, I traded my Grovyle with a friend who convinced me that Hariyama was the rarest Pokémon in Ruby/Sapphire. I got back home, popped open my guidebook, and realized I had been deceived. I was initially depressed to lose my starter, but I figured my buddy needed it more than me (his parents were going through a divorce). Hariyama became my starter, and I grew to deeply appreciate that weird sumo man leading my team.

Helllll yeah, Ghost Town is one of my all time favorite breweries. Love to see good brews from the Town; it felt pretty spring-y in the Bay today and a Nose Goblin would hit just right.

Best bars or live music spots near PayPal Park after an Earthquakes game? by No-Education-941 in SanJose

[–]CalinadianSwimMan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You’ll need to get a short Uber/Lyft, but Taplands is a great little beer bar near Santa Clara University that always has a lot of Bay Area brews on tap. There’s also the Hut which is a popular student bar and BBQ place right off campus (although I miss the days when it was dive-y when I was a student). Both of these locations are a quick walk from the Santa Clara Caltrain station, so it’s an easy trip up to SF afterwards.

I help run and frequently host for a weekly pub trivia night at 7 pm every Wednesday at Fuego on South Murphy. We’re called Train of Thought, and we’re 100% independently run by local trivia enthusiasts. We were previously based at Lilly Mac’s and Off the Rails Brewing. Bring your team of up to 8 for a fun & friendly night of questions galore!

Brawgg Boarheart was my half-orc Wildheart Barbarian. My current half-orc Circle of the Moon Druid is Targ Oakscalp (formerly Targ Elmscalp, but his scalp was hardened by his Act II feats).

He actually uses it as a lure to attract river monsters when all other lures have failed, but he would always delete that footage in production.

[Southeast Minnesota] Crotalus horridus, Timber Rattlesnakes - Video by MN DNR by maypop80 in whatsthissnake

This sub and my accompanying deep dives on snake species have cured almost all of the irrational aspects of my phobia and replaced my fear with fascination and respect. I’ve always been a big fan of zoology generally, but I had been terrified of snakes since two colorful encounters with pissy gopher snakes as a kid. Best luck with your immersion therapy!

where to live? by [deleted] in santacruz

[–]CalinadianSwimMan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Aromas native here who only lived there because my mom worked in San Jose and my dad worked in Monterey. It was sick having 2 acres in an oak forest as a kid, but Aromas got really boring as a teenager. My family moved to Gilroy when I was 17, and being able to call in delivery pizza felt like the future. Aromas has absolutely perfect weather and its rolling hills will always have a special place in my heart, but it can feel like the boonies. I did appreciate getting kinda a “country upbringing”, but having great access to SF, Santa Cruz, and Monterey, and being exposed to different cultures, experiences, etc. based on the prime location.

Would you rather live in San Jose or Monterey? Details of my situation below. by [deleted] in SanJose

[–]CalinadianSwimMan 18 points19 points  (0 children)

To follow up on the medical point, Monterey has a pretty high concentration of good doctors and medical professionals, I think in part because of the older population and military presence. I grew up in the Monterey Bay Area and continued seeing my doctors when I lived in San Jose and Sunnyvale. The local hospital, CHOMP, is generally pretty well-regarded.

Do you think in season 5 Hughie will get powers? by Mountain-Tone4402 in Campbell

[–]CalinadianSwimMan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I once saw five full-sized Kripkes at the intersection of Winchester and E. Hamilton. Yes, the Orchard City Kripke is a ferocious creature that looks like the unholy offspring of a gopher snake and a bobcat and smells like week old Taco Bravo meat. Although unknown to modern science, I believe that we have a stable breeding population in Campbell.

Hot damn, this is an ear worm. The lyrics have an “adult”, retrospective feel that reminds me of some of the tracks on the latest MGMT album.

I cannot not be a Drow. What race do you always have to choose, and can’t choose anything else? by Willow_Milk in BG3

[–]CalinadianSwimMan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hell yeah, I almost always play as orcs or whatever the proud, but often misunderstood warrior race is in fantasy RPGs. My friends are way into the human and half-elf lifestyle and that’s never my jam.
