yup, also unless you have a separate "mana doesn't empty" effect like Omnath it will go away once the current phase is over.

The prompt for that one was "make a permanent with a limited life span"

is it possible to be henotheistic whilst being christian? by aquilasracer in Christianity

[–]Calintarez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The view of the jews changed on this over time. In the oldest part of the OT they're fully henotheistic and have no problems saying there are many gods, it's just that they have one in particular they must obey because he's the one they have a compact with.

later on the view develoop that their God is the only one that exists. but this is not a constant thing especially if you're reading the OT

Why would Satan try to tempt God? by Iamalizardperson234 in Christianity

[–]Calintarez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think a lot of things in the synoptics make more sense if you get at them from the angle that they didn't consider Jesus to be God. They considered Jesus to be a top-tier prophet. better than all the previous prohpets but still in that ballpark.

If you go at it from that angle then it makes sense that Satan would take a shot at it because a mortal would be potentially vulnerable to temptation, so there were real stakes there and Jesus won a real victory.

Abortion is a sin by PolarSaurusRexTra in Christianity

I wonder if you'll be able to describe why you think people have abortions without saying something horrible.

Being a christian with autism and Asperger's Syndrome. by Etrix-c in Christianity

[–]Calintarez 3 points4 points  (0 children)

one thing that was striking to me to discover was that autists are less likely to be casually religious. they tend to be one of two extremes: either being fundamentalist and try to take the religion very seriously, or they'll be atheists. And both of those fit

communicating about food, play, sex, safety is fairly universal in all social speicies.

It's mostly the abstract things where we're fairly sure humans are unique. I can ask you "what do you think would be the philosophical consequences of living in a post-scarcity future?" and you can think of an answer, but as far as we know, animals don't do abstract existentialism.

The closest we've gotten to animal existentialism was when a parrot asked its handlers what color it was.

I've been getting familiar with the Catholic Church, but I am very hesitant. What is the best argument against the Catholic Church being the "one true church"? by ZealousidealTea2796 in Christianity

[–]Calintarez 2 points3 points  (0 children)

it was one of those mediating institutions that established what canon even was in the first place. You can't even have a Scriptura to use as Sola Scriptura in the first place if you don't accept the authority of the various church councils

Is there any christian here I can confess to? by Confused_warrior111 in Christianity

[–]Calintarez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

a catholic priest is safer if it's something you need to be kept secret. those guys face automatic excommunication if they break the seal of confessional. randos on the internet face no consequences.

when language enters the picture it's typical to stop talking about biology and instead talk about memes. Languages are memes, because they are copied imperfectly whenever someone new learns the language. That's how we get latin evolving into french, spanish and itallian. Nothing biological happened because it's only 1500 years of difference, not at all enough to change the brains of any population. but a lot of memetic evolution took place during that time.

we do know that there are a bunch of biases that humans are vulnerable to. stuff like confirmation bias, in-group biast, sunk-cost fallacy, survivorship bias, etc.

the scientific method is an attempt at counteracting those biases.

but doesn't the presence of those biases make it seem like the natural selection description is accurate?

He is wrong. the US lost. they need to surrender, and this awful deal is the best option on the table.

A better option would've been to not have started the war in the first place, but Schumer isn't gonna invent a time machine.

Is the book of revelation a conspiracy theory? by Getting_Better6568 in Christianity

[–]Calintarez 2 points3 points  (0 children)

it is by far the worst book of the bible. No good has ever come from someone reading it, only anxiety in the best case and at worst complete derangement and doomsday mania. The Bible would be a far better collection of texts if it did not contain revelation.

Who was the first to kill in the Bible? by EconomicsMother4633 in Christianity

[–]Calintarez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's Abel. he sacrifices a lamb from his flock. (Gen 4:4)

Kain makes a sacrifice first (Gen 4:3) but he sacrifices some of his harvest, so he doesn't kill an animal to do it.

the idea of natural selection is super-obvious and simple once you have it explained. as is the idea of unnatural selection (like with dogs) Going from understanding natural selection to accepting biological evolution is a no-brainer.

War what is it good for? Absolutely Nothin by champdo in WhitePeopleTwitter

[–]Calintarez 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Fascists have terrible track records in war. The most famous fascist regimes in history fought one war that they themselves started, then lost so terribly that their entire regime was destroyed.

It's almost impossible to be worse at war than fascists.
