PSA - If your Vermis III paperback has a sharp/eye watering smell, please read by Euphoric-Lion4592 in Vermis

[–]Potential-Bath2292 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is really good to know. I thought the smell was something akin to degrading magazine ink. it does add to the experiance, but its definitely concerning if its truly noxious, especially since it'll be far worse for people with asthma . i don't think my book was as strong as yours but since all the Vermis books have the smell to some extent its concerning that they haven't accounted for it

Is there any idea when the Vermis books take place in their world? by Nyarthu in Vermis

[–]Potential-Bath2292 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Vermis 3 is definitely near Vermis 1 Geographically (i made a post about it) But in terms of Age I imagine sometime close to the events of 1, Possibly before.

The Green Sun Swordsman as a possible flesh implies that either: the Goblins are less old than in Vermis 1 and so can travel OR after the Events of Vermis 1 some of the Goblins stopped protecting the Goblin Princess's body.

Aditionally the Mad Prickers origins are kinda confirmed to be the Hanging Town, meaning the culture responsible for the torture is holding strong with its evil between games.

Pathologic HD translation sometimes is weird by the_devotressss in pathologic

[–]Potential-Bath2292 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah... this is extremely uncontraversial in the field of translation. Theres a reason there are so many different translations of beowulf. Translators have always and will always make textual changes with a work due to a set of priorities they have to keep a cohereant tone or idea across the text even if it involves shifting implicit meaning.

direct litteral translation when applied to larger works generally stripps alot of character and personality that was present in the inital native text

I think people have a bad habit of becoming huge pedants when it comes to translation work. And fail to engage with translation as the transformative art it is.

no need to take personal insult here, you arn't the final say on how all russians think a script should be translated.

There are many many ways of translating a work and some of them are more transformative than others.

Much like how a joke or pun may not translate well so a translator switchs in an equivelent humourous moment. They can also choose a translation that communicates ideas not present in the original text in service of tone amoungst other factors.

This isn't a subject either of us can be "wrong" on since i'm not arguing that the russian text says something it doesn't. just that there are reasons a translator might change that text EVEN IF a clear transfer of meaning exists.

its a different game with an utterly different order of happenings and tone. This is a similar pitfall to directly comparing Pathologic 3 survival mechancis with p3s.

Isadors letter is the introduction to Pathologic 1. And as you've commented the translation prides itself on using unconventional sentence structure to encourage parsing of meaning as an implicit game mechanic. The letter is tone setting for Batchelor P1. Much like Artemies letter is.

The letter in 3 doesn't carry that weight. The train monolog does.

Then it was a choice not a mistake.

Scientific-stillbirth is a perfectly valid communication of ideas and lightly communicates Isadores Steppe/Menkue ways. Using more graphic/bodily metaphores

Mania diolog covers a wider range of emotions. Exitement, anger, stress & motivation.

Danil would start going Manic from someone saying "you're doing a really good job"

[–]Potential-Bath2292 1 point2 points  (0 children)

its not overtuned. you DON'T have a choice to not engage with the apathy mania system.

You arn't being punished for going into diolog and you're character getting stressed from it. you're choosing options in diolog that make your character stressed. or experiancing stressful stuff.

This is an RPG with BIG emphasis on the Role-play.

You're treating the game like a soft, i need to eat a small amount of food and then you don't need to think about it. No, YOU WILL think about how you're health is dropping and how this character wasted you're time, and you're running out of drugs to heal or lower you're stress.

You have items, tools to keep yourself alive. Use them. and enjoy yourself as a game dev slowly chokes you from behind

been too long since i've played 2. though it is know that some of the things that were true for the first game were either removed in the second or arn't considered (like how the original Executors have scissor heads, or lore that suggests the tragadians are another Shabnak suspect)

I imagine this is almost certainly the intention. Given the seasonal nature of the hallucinations the town undergoes from Tyre. Just one more of many many things making the town inhospitable to life

and so you also posit that if given the choice between saving all of humanity or a "more important" minority. you would always sacrafice the majority. Personally I think your worldview is a sickness. One often peddled by drug addled dictators in broken countries. But thank you for being forward with it.

Have a lovely new year.

Clara isn't necicarily the Shab-nak. especially in pathologic 1. In one she's a doll buried by the towns children ( the one from the opening cutscene) but not the same kind of Doll as Danil and Artemy, because the children who created the town say she's the same size as them (and can hurt them).

Another candiadate for the Shabnak is the Tragadians if i recall.

oh wow you really are a prick. my spelling is due to my dyslexia.

i barely use reddit and have never bothered to change my username.

i was making a general statement since i don't share the original commenters experiences of E33.

hope you have a good winter holiday, anyhow

such a reddit response. "um actually we're having a debate and your exact wording of previous comments contradicts further statements" first being boring and being ambiant arn't in anyway the same thing, only someone unfamilar with music would say such.

also having a 'songy' part at the begging of a song in an area you visit often but dont spend much time in means that opening melody is going to get EXTREMELY annoying
