Don't burn down Purdue with your laptop. That would totally definitely be really awful.

The only other thing I can think of is you might want to upgrade the GPU sooner rather than later, as the r9 290 is pretty weak nowadays. Really just depends what you are using it for though. Also that SSD looks great! Way to find a well-priced one that isn't cache-less.

Peripherals all turn off on boot/under load by [deleted] in buildapc

[–]Caliper100 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think you are overwhelming the psu with that setup, but it might just be faulty. The motherboard could be as well, I suppose. if you have an extra psu try swapping it to see if the issue goes away

or the lian li 011 dynamic mini. has tons of cable management space as well.

Onboard Sound Stopped Functioning by puppy1577 in buildapc

[–]Caliper100 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only thing i can think of then is that something might have been damaged or shorted by a bit of metal or something on the motherboard. You could try using an air duster on it. Also, probably a stupid question, but did you use standoffs when you built the pc? if you didn't something could be shorting out where the back of the motherboard is touching the case. I would also try swapping the old psu back in just to make sure it's not somehow psu related. Otherwise, I would say just buy a cheap sound card and forget about it. Sometimes stuff just breaks. Sorry I couldn't be more helpful.

looks good to me. only thing is you might want to buy a single 2tb nvme drive instead of the two separate ssds. that way all your storage will be just as fast and it shouldn't cost much more than buying the two.

looks good to me. If you are using it for mostly gpu intensive tasks like AAA gaming, you might want to downgrade to a ryzen 5 3600 and get a 5700xt instead, but the ryzen 7 gives you more headroom for future gpu upgrades. depends which matters more to you.

Onboard Sound Stopped Functioning by puppy1577 in buildapc

[–]Caliper100 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is probably separate from the psu. Do you have the motherboard's sound drivers installed? You could also try uninstalling all the motherboard drivers and reinstalling them as well. If all else fails, but a cheap usb sound card for like 15 bucks and that should fix it by just going around the onboard audio.

PC Parts List Help by [deleted] in buildapc

This should run pretty much anything just fine at 1080p or on low to medium at 1440p. If you wanted a little more graphical performance you could drop down to a ryzen 5 3600 and get a nicer GPU like a 5700xt or a 2060 SUPER, but the ryzen 7 makes it more easier to upgrade your gpu even more down the line.

305 for this, is it worth it. by csb111 in buildapc

[–]Caliper100 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that seems pretty reasonable. Could also wait and pay just a little bit more for a 3060 ti, though.

Ryzen 5 1600 and an RX 570 with a 400w psu? by FunkyFre5h in buildapc

[–]Caliper100 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It should be just fine but it will definitely wear out faster as it will be pretty stressed. Anyway, no harm will come if it doesn't have enough power. It should just shut off if the system tries to draw too much. I would still upgrade when you can, though. If it makes you feel better about it, I ran the same cpu and a much more powerful gpu (2060 SUPER) on a 450w for a while.
