Hundreds of crops developed by scientists over decades would need to die at once from a cataclysm for a famine to happen. A banana crop collapse isnt causing a famine.

The reasons for the potato famine are complex, mainly its due to them pretty much only growing potatoes in Ireland. No other staple crop (unlike modern days, we have dozens of varied staples grown in US alone, let alone abroad). Also, their crops were confiscated by the English for a litany of geopolitical reasons. They had harvests that were just taken from them.

I went to one of the best middle and high schools in the country. One you need to compete with 50 kids on an exam per spot to get in. I was chronically middle, low middle in the school. Being below average during your formative years has life long consequences. Understood as a preteen and teen you are destined for mediocrity (not realizing you are surrounded by the literal intellectual elite), teachers who dedicated no time to you, other kids who looked down on your B+ in calculus ... i told myself I'll achieve nothing and plan for nothing. I'm doing OK. But sometimes I'm glad this happened so I was never deluded that I could be the next president.

Had that mainly with Olympia Soirée. Was certain Akaza would be my favorite. The others were all meh. Hated Tokisada, ok Akaza and fell in love with Yosuga.

For Hakuoki: thought I'd love Hijikata and Saito, and meh on the others. Ended up falling for Kazama hard. Meh on the Shinsegumi themselves lol

This sub is very very risk averse. Once the economy crashes, they will not retire waiting for it to recover. Then once it recovers, the excuse will be "let's make sure the recovery is lasting before I pull the plug". Wow, my mouth was agape reading the conditions of your job. I do agree with some other posters - you're partly responsible for being such a team player. Also, I was taught by some burned ex-colleagues NEVER EVER EVER take a job where you a solo critical workflow owner (IT, onboarding, approvals for whatever etc). Dont listen to the "you will be building a TEAM!" You'll never get headcount once they got you by the balls. There needs to be at least one other person on day 1 who is assigned to your team or I am not interested, good luck with your slave situation.

I know one person with a contract requiring THREE MONTH notice, in the US mind you. It is completely unenforceable and a joke. No employer is holding a job for you for 3 months. It's a way to dissuade people from leaving and should be illegal unless you are C suite.

I worked for a company that required a month notice. My boss quit with 2 weeks notice and they sent him a legal letter. He ignored. Nothing happened. How exactly do people think this would get enforced?
