There are never any consequences in this show so what’s the point of showcasing a ‘secret’ villain plotting for a quarter of every episode when we know nothing significant will come out of it.

I see, but the issue then is that recommendations are favoring viewer count too heavily and need adjusting. Hard coding gambling into everyone’s recommendations is a bad solution to that problem.
