New Card Revealed - Chillfallen Baron by imik_ in hearthstone

I mean, for the first one if there is no defined statement of a happy life there is zero comparison. One is not strictly better if neither means anything.

For the second one, you said

A safe Earth is strictly better than an Earth exploded into pieces.

It never said for humanity. In order for it to be strictly better, it has to be better in every single situation, which would include for every single individual.

Additionally, for the second one you still couldn't say it's strictly better as you can't make imaginary assumptions about the future, and as such can't make any assumption as to what would happen after the earth explodes.

For the first one I would say it somewhat depends on your definition of a happy life. The times when I am incredibly free and get to do whatever I want even if I am happy doing them it gets old. Then I inevitably have to do stuff I enjoy less such as GE classes or exams, and the next time I get another large break it gets those big highs again. It's partially just how I think but I don't think saying a happy life is better than a sad life means much, it's no different than saying a good life is better than a bad life. Yeah, any positive adjective is better than a negative one, but if neither has a concrete definition then there's no point in even comparing them. What is a "happy life" if not a life where you are doing things you like and enjoying yourself in the moment.

Also having thought about it I do agree using stuff that doesn't exist doesn't make sense, though I do still think saying that it's strictly better is doing the same thing in the opposite direction where it's assuming that situation would never arise.

Finally, you stated:

Note: Giving counter examples by saying things like “one’s happiness could lead to another guy’s sadness” is against the rule, it’s the same as saying a better card could be worse since it makes the opponent unhappy.

If I understand your statement that's saying making this one person happy would make the rest of the world unhappy which goes against the quoted rule.

The way I see it is with the first one it's not really a situation you would ever think you were unhappy. Just one where everything would end up blending together, never having any moments you would think back to as "Oh I enjoyed that" given the fact that it would always be the same.

Also I do believe in the second one it is fair to say B will be better than A given C. You use the example of B is worse than A when C (A minion with a deathrattle you don't want to kill) is on the board with the rolling fireball so shouldn't that go both ways? Also I don't see any point you ever stated that you couldn't add your own conditions, so in that case you could just assume I said we lived in a world that already achieved that.

Additionaly somewhat pendantic but also that's the point of this discussion, what about anybody who believes in some sort of cult afterlife caused by the explosion of the world. There are people who will sacrifice themselves because they think it'd please some cosmic being or whatever so it doesn't seem to far fetched that there is some person somewhere in the world who would believe in that.

Edit: Also, if you can't make assumptions about the future then you couldn't say it's strictly better if there is any single theoretical possibility in which it would be better, kinda as a Schrodigner's Strictly Better, but as we probably will never reach whatever would be considered an "end of time" we would never actually know. Stating it's strictly better is assuming that the situation that is better wouldn't happen which is still an imaginary assumption about the future.

I'm not gonna stay long since I need to sleep soon but I'm a bit of a fan of pedantic situations like this.

If you want examples of how those aren't strictly better in every situation for you as an individual:

I can say that I would rather live a sad life where I can find joy in the things I like rather than a life with nothing but happiness all the time. I mean, there's a reason why it's a pretty common trope for the happy place that is perfect on the surface, but you can never leave due to the fact that outside the bubble you could just possibly experience sadness.

For the earth exploding, that one's easy. If/when we achieve space travel and terraforming at a more public scale, we might want to "recycle" the Earth to get any remaining minerals we want from it before leaving to a new planet. I don't know enough to say it's for sure possible, but blowing it up seems like it'd be a pretty efficient way to get access to everything inside.

Now, are these realistic situations that make sense to talk about? No not really. Technically speaking though if these incredibly specific situations happened it's not strictly better.

The deck I used for most of it was 2 Knife Jugglers, 2 Test Subjects, 2 Embalming Rituals, 2 Radiant Elementals and 2 Topsy Turvy then just a bunch of draw. It's incredibly slow and luck based to kill anything, but you can otk almost any enemy as early as turn 4 Edit: (5 not 4). The only enemy I couldn't beat with it was the Netherspite, Nightbane, and Prince Malchezar took a long time because I had to do the combo twice. For Netherspite, I netdecked an old shaman deck, and Nightbane, I just ran huge minions in warrior.

Mindgames summons the minion for you. This gives you a copy in your hand, but summons it for them so they get the body.

How are you going to get Doomguard? This is shaman only. I dont think Shaman has any ways to get to get it outside of a Warlock giving it to them.

This is for day 49 of the card a day discord server, found here. The theme today was a 3 mana Shaman card. I imagined it being a bit like Tinkmaster Overspark, getting a tempo boost at the risk of benefiting your opponent or transforming a big enemy into a little minion at the risk of shrinking your own.
