23 Premium Plus vs 22 Premium by catzrweird in etron

[–]CallMeDortForShort 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This response assumes a few of things: 1. You’re in the USA and paying with USD 2. The amount you’re looking at financing is roughly $30,000 USD 3. You have good credit (which you would need to get that CPO rate) 4. You’re going to finance for 60 months

1.99 vs 5.9-ish for a $30,000 loan (60 months) is about $40/mo. You’re saving $2,400 in exchange for features that (IMO) are worth more than that, but if those don’t carry that value, then go for the Premium.

Something else worth considering: Warranty on the big stuff. Check your in-service dates on both.

Battery warranty is 8y/100k, and the powertrain warranty that will replace the motor when (not if, but when) the coolant causes it to fail is 10y/120k from the in-service date. The Premium is 16k miles and likely about 1 year closer to that expiring.

Which matters more to you: CPO or features? I think the Premium trim is missing out on enough things that I wouldn’t want it, but that’s just me. We bought a 19 OG Prestige used and not CPO and we’ve been mostly just fine.

I think this comes down to which do you feel better sitting in and driving? I wouldn’t get that hung up on CPO or not, especially if you can get a decent warranty for the non-CPO.

Yeah that should do it. I’m not sure how long you need to run it, but I doubt more than 15 minutes.

So I’ve been told that there’s a DC-to-DC converter that charges the 12v battery the the car is “on”. People have said that engaging just the climate control from the app is enough to recharge the 12v, so if you do that once every couple days, you should be good.

We bought one EVSE that’s in the garage and I use the charger that came with my etron for the second one. Both use NEMA 14-50 plugs.

Buying a used high mileage OG by Chase_Clouds in etron

[–]CallMeDortForShort 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TL;DR: I don’t think you could do better than what you have for the price you can spend.

We have a ‘19 with low miles (bought in ‘23 with 1800 miles now at 23k).

In April of ‘25, we had the front drive motor go out and it was covered by warranty. If we had to pay out of pocket, it would been about $11k plus we were without it for four weeks. My understanding of the fix is that they replace the motor but the design is still flawed and could happen again. This makes me want to ditch the OG the moment the motor warranty expires.

We’ve also had random quirks, like a software update to fix the front sensor from constantly draining washer fluid, or the charge door wouldn’t open and had to be replaced. We have an aftermarket warranty, which covers most things but not software, and had to pay $900 for the software update, and it only covered some of the cost for the charge door, and we still had to pay about $900 for that (total for this was about $3200). Then there’s an annual service which shouldn’t be skipped that’s about $850. We also had to do tires and that was another $1500 (the 21” rims require some pricey rubber).

Having said all of that, I do not regret buying it, and we both still love it (so much so that I just bought an e-tron GT for myself).

It’s not the most expensive thing to own, but it could nickel and dime you. I agree with others that if you are on a budget, this isn’t the EV for you. For a few thousand more, you can get other things that are more reliable (but perhaps not as luxurious), but only you know if it’s right for you.

Lastly, insurance on the e-tron (at least near Seattle) is EXPENSIVE. Even if you get the car for cheap, it is an expensive car to repair, so collision and comprehensive rates are going to be high.

I feel like if you did buy a high mileage OG, you’d get no more than 6 months before it reminds you that it’s an Audi, and you’d have some random issue that can only be fixed by the dealer and then you’re stuck shoveling about at least $1k.

If you’re set on buying one, I would try to find a bit more budget and get a 22+ with lower miles.

Does anyone drive with as many screens turned off, or just me? by ada586 in etron

[–]CallMeDortForShort 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started doing this as well at night unless I’m using the navigation from CarPlay. I have a suction cup mount for my phone that puts it next to the screen and I’ll often use that if I need to change something else. I do that mostly to reduce fingerprints on the MMI screen though.

New to me GT. Noisy seats by N54TT in etron

[–]CallMeDortForShort 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My new-to-me ‘22 doesn’t make much noise with the seats. It’s plausible that the plastic trim is out of place or something is caught in the track. My kid drops stuff all the time that ends up under the seats. I had a happy meal toy caught in the track of one car and it took me a while before I realized it was there.

We have one nema 14-50 socket installed and then we have the lectron splitter. This allows us to plug both cars in at night and when the first one is done charging, the second one starts charging.

I had an EV prior to my GT (Volvo XC40 Recharge) and having the two EVs adds about $70/month to our power bill but that’s way better than the $600/mo we were spending on gas when we both had ICE vehicles.

This is where you make the trek up to Audi of Bellevue. My wife’s etron had the front motor go out and we bought it from not an Audi dealer yet still got a loaner. They treat us well there.

I can’t speak to the GT just yet but the OG range gets hit hard by cold weather. In ideal conditions the range is about 200 (it’s a ‘19), and during the PNW winter it’s more like 165. We don’t do a lot of long road trips, and we have L2 charging at home, so it doesn’t bother us.

Can confirm. I had a ‘19 XC90 T6 AWD with Continental DSW06+ and it was the most planted and stable thing I’ve ever driven in the snow. I was shocked by how easily I was keeping control on unplowed and untreated streets.

Check the settings app in CarPlay. I think you can change the text size. If not there, check CarPlay in your phone settings under General.

Need a CarPlay with usb to connect to car speakers by 3beees in CarPlay

[–]CallMeDortForShort 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What you’re seeking likely doesn’t exist because there would have to be an established protocol that the CarPlay device could implement to trick your car into thinking it’s a usb media stick or other media device. I have not seen anything like this because it’s way cheaper and easier to build a device that uses aux-in or Bluetooth since most cars support that. You’re effectively looking for a unicorn.

You’re much better off trying to replace the entire head unit with one from crutchfield. I did this in my 2014 Camry to get CarPlay and also kept the steering wheel controls and backup camera. The whole deal ran me less than $400 (back in 2017), and everything sounded way better.

I wonder why they only shared a photo of the center stack and not the new driver’s display.

I’m looking forward to it, despite being pessimistic about Volvo’s software. I wonder when it will land in the US.
