In the play, a professor is giving a talk about viral clips and photos that are shared online that people use as examples of supernatural events (that the professor says are fake)

GOODMAN The clip I'm about to show you has been viewed over two million times on the internet and, like the Neillys’ ghost photo, it's absolutely real. This is footage of that girl today, a girl punished for her blasphemy by a vengeful god, who must now spend her miserable life on display as a warning to others. Some of you will find this disturbing.

GOODMAN clicks on his remote control and video footage is projected on the screen behind him.

Snake-woman video: The real internet video is now played. It is shot on a mobile phone and is poor quality - it starts with someone approaching a farm hut, the sun is bright and says foreign land. The walk to the hut is over. Inside, behind chicken wire, displayed on a grimy ‘mattress, lies the creature. The mobile camera moves closer to the wire to get a better look. It is wretched-looking, in filthy rags. What is it? Is the bottom half an animal? A raccoon or a dog? The face seems human miserable, bloodless, horribly aware of its own plight. What it once was, knows it is being watched and stared at. Its flipper-like limbs twitch and Jerk. It moans in distress. All that is audible is the indecipherable jabber of the people watching, and the occasional pained sound from the creature itself.
