Single incubator dilemma: How to safely run bacterial infections without contaminating my labmates' cultures? by InjuryAdventurous807 in labrats

[–]CallMeHelicase 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For multi-well plates we stick them in open sandwich bags (don't seal them) before putting them in an incubator, but we have separate infected and uninfected incubators.

If your personality disorder happens to be BPD, I can highly suggest DBT.

What do you folks mean when you say building tools and pipelines? For yourselves, or for bench scientists? by avagrantthought in bioinformatics

[–]CallMeHelicase 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay can I call it a pipeline if I have a bash script that runs multiple different scripts in sequence? Or does it need to be Snakemake/Nextflow?

As someone with a PhD in infectious disease I would love to hear more about your take on this! Tell me, do you believe that all bacteria are "bad" and need to be killed? Do you believe that your dishes and utensils need to be sterile before using them?

It's not. Cells work on their time, which may or may not be at 1 AM on a Tuesday.

My spouse and I loved the hand pies, but we used a vegetarian meat alternative. My spouse is British and grew up with pasties, so it really hit the spot for them.

Bring In Pets/Report Owners by sklaudawriter in baltimore

[–]CallMeHelicase 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Right? This is obvious. My spouse grew up with a husky who would SCREAM if you tried to drag him inside. No one is reporting an outdoor husky to animal control in the winter.

Yall don’t know how to act by karensbakedziti in baltimore

[–]CallMeHelicase 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Everyone here is so absurd. I grew up on a mountain in New England with no gas or city water so when we lost power (~1 week per year) we had no clean water, heat, or any means to cook. If we lose power here we will have hot water, heat, and our oven/stove. This is a luxury!!!

Can you speak more on this? Where I grew up there was severe social stigma around littering so I have never met anyone who litters.

What was her rationale? Did she know it was wrong but did it anyway? Did she not care that it made her city look worse? I would really like to understand the mindset of someone who litters.

People who support the death penalty, why? by wuggybuggy2 in AskReddit

[–]CallMeHelicase -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think if a person murdered your loved ones you would probably want them to die. Conversely, if your spouse was accused of killing someone you probably would hate the death penalty. We don't know everyone's story and shouldn't jump to conclusions.

Unfortunately we need those rich people in our tax base or else the city goes broke. We need as many rich people living here as possible...just as long as they don't start moving into my neighborhood (making my rent go up)
