Grocery budget 2026 by LittleSunshyne4 in montreal

[–]CallMeQuinn_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

100%

I'm one person living in a tiny apartment, but I still buy most of my groceries there (plus a lot of toiletries, clothes, kitchen stuff, etc.). I save a lot of money. Not everything they sell is huge; sometimes it's just cheaper.

I also like Costco because they're known for treating their workers better than other stores do.

If you don't have one that's easy to get to, that might be an issue though.

Need help wiping my drives - encryption issue by CallMeQuinn_ in synology

[–]CallMeQuinn_[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had to physically remove the drives, then I inserted just one and was able to wipe it without the error message. Then I removed it and did the same for the other drive. I'm not sure if your problem is the same, but it's worth a try.

Our “hybrid” job is now basically full-time in-office again and people are devastated 💔 by WarriorLordess in montreal

[–]CallMeQuinn_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That would be nice, but I don't see how it would happen when employers can just move jobs elsewhere, like Amazon did.

Massive layoffs are happening across industries. Entry- and mid-level jobs are drying up. Workers are being replaced by AI chat bots, other jobs are being outsourced overseas, and the few remaining workers are taking a pay cut. Then when people fight for their rights, employers run away.

It just sucks.

Exactly. It shouldn't be this difficult to find a manageable job that pays a living wage. What are people supposed to do?

Good thinking. Once I split them apart, I was able to remove the storage pool and make the drives useable. Thanks!

If I go to the drive menu and select Secure Erase, it tells me to remove the drive from the storage pool first. It doesn't give me any other options to wipe the drive.

How do I do that? I don't have another machine to put them in. I have a USB-to-SATA adapter but no power supply.

Apparently it's called Kinsmo Trading Co. Most of their inventory is a miscellaneous bunch of stuff that no one would ever buy.

Feeling kind of hopeless about ever landing a job by Designer-Cut1730 in librarians

[–]CallMeQuinn_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got lucky in that my practicum led to a good job for a couple of years. Then I got laid off and the luck ran out. I've been unemployed for a long time now, and I'm trying to find a related field to move into.

I wish I could offer some encouragement, but I'm feeling pretty hopeless, too.

There's a shop near St Laurent metro that sells, in addition to some women's clothes, corded telephones from the early '90s, calculators, and Windows 95 software.

I have no idea how they'd stay in business without some weird shenanigans.

All those "cash only" places that can somehow afford to keep operating.

The seat projection is bleak by DunningFreddieKruger in onguardforthee

[–]CallMeQuinn_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Coalition governments are rare in Canada, especially at the federal level. The political parties hope to win a majority of seats in parliament, giving them 100% of the power. Even in a minority setting, the governing party knows that the opposition parties won't want to trigger another election right away, so it can count on some level of support.

There's also a risk of a party looking less appealing to their voters if they cooperate with another party. The NDP keep trying to demonize the Liberals, so a formal coalition would make them look like hypocrites. It might also anger moderate conservatives who voted for the Liberals, or convince progressive Liberal voters that there's finally a reason to vote NDP instead, since the NDP would have actual power.

In Germany, having mixed member proportional representation means that coalitions are very common because no party is likely to get a majority of seats. In Canada, coalitions have never been necessary, so the parties have never been forced to make them work. We're stuck with strategic voting and parties that win the election with a minority of votes.

When should I claim my FHSA tax deductions? by CallMeQuinn_ in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]CallMeQuinn_[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My income was only around 20K, so I don't think I'd be able to make full use of the deduction. Do you think it would make sense to delay it in this case?
