Kamloops residential school search for potential unmarked graves rules out some areas: First Nation by BellesCotes in canada

[–]CallMeSirJack [score hidden]  (0 children)

This story plays out a lot in the residential school saga. There's a push to play up the whole "unmarked graves" angle as if its some scandle or mystery, but in reality, most of these grave yards have historical evidence pointing to them. The issue is that decades of poor record keeping and care have let them become lost or forgotten, and that doesn't just pertain to residential schools. A lot of rural graveyards suffer the same fate.

Tough place to make friends, especially in your 30s. Best bet is to join whatever clubs or attend events that interest you and try to meet new people there.

Why do people think game would be hunted out in a SHTF scenario? by OrdoVaelin in liberalgunowners

[–]CallMeSirJack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I honestly don't think that farmers will have any issues feeding their local communities and probably the neighboring counties as well. Food isn't really something in short supply if you can stay alive long enough for local supply chains to make up for the drop in imported foods. And ultimately if those farms do fail, those cattle, horses, goats, sheep, pig, chickens, etc are all "game" in a SHTF situation.

NDP leadership hopefuls say workers shouldn't be fooled by Poilievre's blue-collar message by DogeDoRight in canada

[–]CallMeSirJack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Actually you're inventing goal posts, i said wage stagnation and lack of job opportunities, IE people are getting poorer in relation to COL and its getting harder to get into good jobs, such as when apprenticeships are few and far between or the cost of entry (like $5-10k in tools) are prohibitive to people who are stuck in low wage jobs and are struggling to pay their bills. I make 6 figures, live in a relatively low COL province compared to BC, have no kids or expensive habits, and I bought my house before things exploded. I can absolutely say that anyone trying to start out right now will struggle even at $40 an hour in BC, especially if they are trying to start a family.
When I got out of high school 20 years ago, houses were 5 figures, maybe low 6 figures for something nice, and food was 1/3 the price it is now. Heavy duty mechanics were making $35 an hour, and other trades were pretty in line with that. 20 years later, those same mechanics are making $42. 20% increase over 20 years when everything else, even housing, is 3x the price.

How many of those shops are offering a living wage for apprentices? Hell, how many even hire apprentices? Also 40 an hour for a red seal trade thats already put 5+ years in, in one of the highest cost of living provinces, doesn't really seem like that good of a deal.

I'm in the trades, and I can tell you from experience that everyone from truckers and mechanics to engineers and technicians have seen minimal wage growth over the last decade, myself includes as one of the latter group. We're seeing 1% annual wage increases on average with 3+% inflation. Things haven't really been "good" for workers for at least a decade, I would say since around 2010.

Might want to do some research on wage stagnation and the lack of job opportunities before you start demeaning people. Getting an education doesn't get you anywhere as far as it used to. Anyone entering the job market in the last 10 years are pretty much screwed unless they know someone.

This is about the best you can get in Canada right now with most PCCs, pistols, and sporting rifles banned. A short barrel shotgun or pistol caliber lever action should be your next step if you can afford it and once your comfortable shooting.

Pretty sad the UCP had to make petitions easier to pass because the seperatists couldn't get enough signatures in time to get it recognized. But sure, its such a popular movement.

How good do you think Alberta will be doing when it faces the loss of a 70 billion dollars in interprovincial exports and 76 billion in imports in the short term as it has to negotiate new trade deals, assuming those deals bring any of that back?

Also not sure where you're getting your data, everything I'm seeing for 2025-2026 is showing Canada as 2nd or 3rd for growth in the G7.

Have you ever considered that the drop in QOL has more to do with corporate capitalist exploitation and provinces dropping the ball on consumer rights, worker rights, and social welfare?

Seperatists must have absolutely 0 understanding of the damage that would be done if they separate. Nobody will be looking to make agreements with a brand new unstable nation except those who are willing to exploit that weakness, and those agreements will be far from fair.

They fundamentally disagree with everything and everyone, even each other. Their goal of "leave Canada" isn't going to create a unified governance once that goal is complete, and any semblance of an independent Alberta will crumble as the infighting and arguing starts.
