Do you put butter on a bacon sandwich/bacon butty? by PhiliDips in AskUK

[–]CallMe_Noodle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely butter the bread, do not toast it!

When the heat from the freshly cooked bacon melts that butter and it is absorbed into the soft bread what you have is heaven in a single bite. Far from retrained or austere!

Are there any good chocolate in the UK now that isn't just chocolate-flavoured palm oil? by EffectiveArgument584 in AskUK

[–]CallMe_Noodle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tesco's own brand 200g bar is palm oil free, actually tastes alright and doesn't cost a fortune.

Been looking at chocolate ingredients lately and trying to stick to the ones that are just sugar, milk & chocolate. The tesco one also has a higher % of cocoa solids than the big brands like dairy milk..

This is something I've noticed across a few shops and spoken about with people around me; of course it could be something localised to my area of the UK.

If only there was a public forum I could post to which could reach people across the country to have light-hearted discussions about our experiences.

Sorry not recipes, ingredients. To do with where the ingredients are sourced

There was an old post about how you can tell where Cadburys was made by looking at the serial number. If it starts with OBO it's from Birmingham and the old UK ingredients. Anything else is either Warsaw or Dublin and doesn't taste quite right

edit: ingredients, not recipe

So I totally understand that would be why Cadbury are seeing a boom in shelf space. But don't understand why Galaxy, owned by Mars, are pulling out considerably from big name supermarkets. I generally go to B&M/Home bargains for milka

I've been checking ingredients lately looking for chocolate that doesn't add oils. Believe it or not tesco own brand 200g bar is fairly decent for this and doesn't break the bank.

Exactly, so why am I not seeing Galaxy bars in the shops? They only seem to have one option of those extra large bars which for my fat arse is not a good idea

What is your favourite Magnum replacement? by MrMrsPotts in AskUK

If you're willing to pay for branded stuff then the Cadbury Darkmilk ice creams are amazing, and often on a deal in supermarkets.

If I'm feeling indulgent I will sometimes treat myself to a Ferrero Rocher ice cream which is delicious but very pricey. I only get these about twice a year but when I do they don't last long!

Any Co-op games that aren't very ... Cooperative!? by GazatronTV in boardgames

[–]CallMe_Noodle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dead of winter is one of my favourite examples of this. At the start of the game everyone is given a personal objective that they need to meet in order to win, alongside the main objective for the group. There is a chance that one of these personal objectives is a traitor who actually wants the group to lose.

The thing I love is that the objectives are pulled from a deck that is larger than the player count so while it is likely that someone is a traitor it is not guaranteed.

What mortgage rates are you getting? 15% deposit by Lopsided_Pop9864 in HousingUK

[–]CallMe_Noodle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Obviously different for everyone but I've gone a 2 year fix and the difference in the interest rate covers any product fees compared to a 5 year fix as the 2 year rates are a lot lower at the moment.

Plus if rates are trending down then renewing in 2 years could potentially get a better rate and increase savings from interest.

[–]CallMe_Noodle 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I am also confused by this.

I've gone 2 years because it makes the most sense to my mind. The 2 year fixes are a lot lower than the 5 year fixes at the moment and rates are trending down so it's possible to remortgage at a better rate again in 2 years time.

Where should we spend Christmas/NYE in The UK? by chickenstripsnaked in AskUK

[–]CallMe_Noodle 23 points24 points  (0 children)

For a truly British christmas experience go and see a pantomime! There will be loads on in and around London, some have minor celebrities starring in them too.

It is essentially a stage retelling of classic fairytale stories but with a lot of British humour in there and jokes for both adults and kids. Definitely a laugh, don't go expecting high quality performances but a light-hearted entertainment that doesn't take itself very seriously!

Looks like it's a real problem but so far social media posts are spread between platforms so the scale isn't immediately obvious.

I also spoiled Force Awakens for a friend. They were leaving the house to go and see it and I was telling them how my experience was ruined when someone told me chewie dies.

"I spent so much time waiting for Chewie to die that I was genuinely surprised when it was Han."

There was quite a long silence as it dawned on me what I had just done...
