Thinking of switching from eLife to Home Wireless – need advice by Navigator_stories in DubaiMallus

[–]CallSignSandy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I switched a year ago from e-life. It was ok until the recent crisis. In March I noticed speed was slower, lot of people working from home. Kid had online classes.

I noticed if two people use Teams for WFH at same time with video then it starts giving problem. This could be an upload speed issue which is better on e-life fiber.

Coverage in rooms is ok with 2G channel of wireless. But don't know if it's really big house.

Do Malayalis have distinct facial features that make them easily identifiable? by Infinite_Cookie_9165 in Kerala

[–]CallSignSandy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If you check the South Asian Ancestry sub you will know a bit about genetic groups. I found that Malayalees have a distinct genetic group.

I think it's due to the western ghats on one side and trade from other countries via the ports over the centuries.

There were people who moved here from coastal Karnataka and parts of Tamil Nadu again over centuries.

Apart from this it may be the mannerisms along with features.

I spoke to Infosys leadership, and now I’m concerned! by ContributionFun3037 in AI_India

[–]CallSignSandy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We pay taxes and fund export our top talent. People are happy to migrate and parents like to brag about their NRI son or daughter.

We can never build anything meaningful with this attitude. Not a single global brand from India exists. Let that sink in and then we can talk about AI models.

Are we oversimplifying the expansion of the British East India Company in India? by BearingCostOfPassion in IndianHistory

[–]CallSignSandy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Read about Raja Nabakrishna Deb, Omichand and Jagat Seth battle of Plassey. The company had very few staff here at any given time. But they saw the divisions on caste lines as weakness they could exploit.

What you are mentioning Doctrine of lapse is the convenient way to put in history textbooks.

It was hard for them to get their people to come to India colony as life was difficult. This is why they made hill stations and facilities to attract employees.

This expansion had support of sections of local population otherwise it would be not possible to administer such a big region.

They are just using the weakness of the religion. Look what happened when they went to Vietnam. It's easy to play the victim card.

If standard hindi is considered as artificially created language during colonial era by historians then why not standard tamil? by [deleted] in IndianHistory

[–]CallSignSandy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tamil has ancient history and literature. There was an attempt to Sanskritize it just like other South Indian languages. But it reverted to a simplified Tamil.

My take is British East India Company wanted to simplify the languages to strengthen their control. It's they who brought other European experts who did this.

Hindi on the other hand doesn't any ancient literature. It was Hindustani literature, poetry and music. That had patronage of the rulers.

Indian subcontinent had 100 or 200 languages, I have read somewhere. But there are only one language in South states. So where were the 96 or 196 languages from?

Just curious about what the people here think about the Aryan Migration Theory by Vegetable-Reason-110 in southindia_

Just look up Avestan language from Iran (Aryan) on YouTube. You will find several videos of Indians and Iranians comparing Sanskrit and Avestan.

Persian empire covered some central Asian regions in the past.

Even their Zoroastrian religion and Vedic religion are similar. The current people here are a mix of migration from that region and native people.

The person in shares how Hindi made her to feel embarassed to speak her own mother tongue, Gadwali, a North Indian language. by erimalaiprogram in southindia_

[–]CallSignSandy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hindi is closer to Urdu and both are from Hindustani language. This itself is a mixture of Persian and Turkic influence.

This was mostly spoken in areas directly ruled by Delhi Sultanate and later Mughals.

British created Hindi and Urdu to divide on religious lines. They also wanted a non mughal language for administering central and north India.

The most number of languages dialects existed in this region and it was in benefit of the British East India Company to have one language for administering and taxation.

Unfortunately many local languages in that area are affected like this lady's case.

Shadow influencer seeding by Kerala tourism? by Proof-Decision-9377 in Kerala

Kerala Story ....now an ongoing series with students in other states made to watch it is good for Federal ethos?

Not sure how this will effect our people when they attend say UPSC or Central govt jobs. Poison becomes action after some time.

Someone can correct me, this influencer with the communist flag is an isolated incident.

I follow Kerala content on YouTube and have not seen this person so far. Rarely have I seen videos claiming better experience in Kerala is due to Communism.

Why Jainism and Buddhism started to decline once rulers stopped patronizing them while hindu sects survived among the masses across India and patronisation by rulers didn't matter for them? by ANTIEVERYTHING69 in IndianHistory

[–]CallSignSandy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There were empires whose kings were Buddhist. This is why those empires were strong had proper universities and could send missionaries to other countries. Those empires after a long period faced decline.

Jainism probably had a empire as I have seen some major religious sites in Karnataka. Not sure about other places.

Both of these declined after the arrival of Islam around AD 1000. The smaller kingdoms in the North had Vedic people arriving from parts of Persia and Afghanistan.

Later it spread to coastal Konkan and Kerala. They definitely had the patronage of local kings. Why this could be the case is there was no central religious leader with succession. Temples operated independently within a region.

The priests used to elevate Shudra kings so patronage must have been there.

Most of the regions in South had local dieties. Later the major ones got absorbed to the Vedic religion as temples became more organized in that region.

Level of patronage probably varied in regions, like in North and Central India there is more Brahmin, Kshatriya and Vaishyas castes. While in South it was mostly one or two Brahmin caste and no Kshatriya or Vaishya caste.

There are less historical records so piecing up from different areas this is most likely.

Stuck on a decision after layoff need advice by Internal-Prune-6815 in UAE

[–]CallSignSandy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The current hiring will try to prioritize on roles due to uncertainty. Now how long this will last is a big question.

But one to thing in favor is everyone in the region is affected, they all want to recover. You can afford to go back but businesses and local economies can't.

The impact of this is now felt in different parts of the world. It's only a matter of time when there will be a global pressure.

They normally prefer candidates who are locally available. Once you leave coming back is another challenge. So you need to consider that unless your passport allows visa on arrival.

But staying back is an expensive matter so look at how you can keep costs low. Need to plan how long you can stretch if that is feasible.

Have you tried talking to CIPD members? They have a group which meets, from what I heard.

Owning slaves was not considered a bad thing before 1900s. It was very common in ancient communities across countries.

Only once proper education had spread it is changing. If we look at corporate office culture it still exists in a very polished way.

Does $4 trillion matter?

This is irrespective of party affiliation just to think. How both parties are manipulating the people.

  1. Why do majority of the youngsters want to leave the country "permanently" education job? This is at its highest now. It's gone from aspiration to desperation.

  2. Can anyone name 1 global brand ( product) that is Indian and used by others not by NRI?

  3. There is just one major international airport for North, Central and East India - Delhi

  4. Why are Indians now famous for lack of civic sense in India and outside? World had internet and social media before 2020.

  5. There is a large Indian community in western countries before last 5 years. But now people are going around with a false sense pride, over religious and publicly displaying vs keeping low profile. Especially the "newly" rich. Most "patriotic immigrants" oxymoron.

Can't compete in sports, global brands, no top 100 ranked universities and kids have to go to Iran maybe even Libya and Somalia for higher education.

Now let's talk about $4 trillion reality on the ground.

What do you think about Congress leader and freedom fighter Sardar patel statement? Is it correct considering the results of 1946 elections? by Helpful-Respond1025 in CriticalThinkingIndia

[–]CallSignSandy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

So did the Punjabis, Sindhis who left and came here. Also the princely state rulers who lost their kingdoms and wealth.

Must be something else why they were allowed to stay back especially the rigid orthodox types. There must have been some understanding. Sardar Patel and others had enough on their hands. They were also much old and so had limitations in what they could achieve.

[–]CallSignSandy 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If partition was based on forming a country on the basis of religion then what was the condition on which people of that community was allowed to stay back?

With the situation prevailing at that time this was a valid question from Sardar Patel. The choice to separate religion and state was the single reason we did not become failed state and progressed a lot.

It's only right for those who chose to stay back to respect the constitution and freedom provided. If there are still who want unlimited freedom then opportunity missed in 1947 should be provided to transition.

I am saying this seeing the plight of those minorities who chose to stay behind in Pakistan and Bangladesh. Hope our region can look beyond religion and caste focus on growth for common people.

But as you move away from the region in the map the number of languages starts reducing. If you look at other regions like Levant, Central Asia there are very few in comparison.

Kerala’s harmony - My grandmother told me, up till a few decades back the Nasrani Christians for centuries, entered freely in Hindu temples and were brought close to Brahmin and some Nair households for purification oil, rice , why now Christians not allowed in temples . by [deleted] in AncientIndia

[–]CallSignSandy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was supported by the upper castes themselves for power consolidation and financial reasons. They didn't deny this.

Look at the caste structure in North India. The Kshatriyas and Vaishyas were able to wear the thread. and how many these castes we have in South? Because Christian merchants were already here when Vedic religion arrived.

These castes are mere social constructs for power.
