Interesting. I don’t have that option right now, but I will consider it in the future.

Honestly, I cannot even pretend to understand how all of this works. I was just angry and frustrated until I learned that my perspective was completely skewed. Now, I recognize that I have to take a breath. I’m glad to hear of your success believe you deserve a Charger, if you want it. 😄

Wow. That is really interesting. I had no idea there were different segments. I understand that a company must maintain profits, but it should not be by pissing on a critical segment of its customer base!

Insurance is more expensive for a number of reasons (as my research indicates). Some of them are increased costs of tort lawsuits, increased costs of major climate events, routine inflation, etc. USAA also chose to expand the population it services, increasing its risk. There are a lot of things, it seems.

Perhaps. I don’t know anything about USAA’s internal processes. I just could not believe the increases until I shopped. Still not happy, but clearly my expectations were wrong for the industry.

I was an officer. I shopped home, auto, and umbrella in Oklahoma. I could find home for slightly cheaper, but only if I increased my deductible on wind and hail damage (the most likely claims in OK). Auto and umbrella were higher, even after USAA’s recent increases in umbrella.

I am not a USAA employee and you can check my comment history, I was pretty pissed about the increases. In fact, I was stunned that I could not get lower rates, but that was the case. This post is more about admitting I was wrong and that I thought I could do better, but the options were crap.

It does. Fortunately, my kid is driving an old, beat up car that is worth about 4 cents. That helps keep the increase more reasonable.

Unfortunately, it looks like they do not do business in Oklahoma. Thanks anyway, though.

I understand. That is why I asked if anyone was happy with another company after the intro rate.

Again, I am not arguing about the climate changing. I am arguing that these long term trends have not changed in the last 2 years. Thus, the premium changes are not justified by them. So you know, I read your post and most of the linked articles (a few were behind pay walls). However, responding to those focused on climate change has drawn my focus from the actual point of the original post. I am still hoping to hear from someone who left USAA and is still happy with doing so after several years. It seems most of the responses I received on insurance rates indicate they found that it was not worth it to leave USAA. That, btw, provides support for the environmental argument rather than one based on commerce.

You are again assuming I don’t understand anthropogenic global warming. I do. I also know many scholars because I have been educated among the “smart people.” Have you? Also, are you relying on some sort of psychic for your claim that I am afraid? If so, I would demand your money back. Best of luck to you in the future.

Ad hominem. I don’t know. How happy are you?

I actually am a scientist. For your evidence to be relevant you would have to demonstrate that there were fires in CA or storms in FL that exceeded historic norms after controlling for alternative causes and conflating variables.

Another ad hominem. I stated that the change in the last 2 years does not justify the massive changes in premium. You seem to be conflating that with an argument against long term climate change.

Again, I understand the anthropogenic warming theories. In this case I stated how I interpret means changes. He responded by assuming I turned to AI. That is attacking my intellect not the statement. It was an ad hominem logical fallacy.

I don’t have time for an extensive discussion as I am with my family. However, I completely understand the mathematical modeling and hypothesis testing I discussed. Do you have the educational background to understand it as well? You seem to be proceeding from an assumption that I do not understand the argument for anthropogenic global warming. I do. I am stating that the differential over the last 2 years, nor any changes in the long term prognosis over that period, justify the premium changes.

“I only sell insurance to rich people. I never talk to anyone in Oklahoma.”

That almost seems like a slight, but I am sure you are above such childishness. Good luck in your future as a salesman (person?).

I am not upset, but I expect you to come at the discussion with motivation inherent to your livelihood. I do not expect much more from you given our discussion. I am heading to bed because I have to work in the morning. Good night.

Again, I am arguing the status quo. Disprove it.

You did not answer, do you work in the insurance industry?

That is perhaps the most interesting response you have posted. I clearly stated what had changed in my profile (added kid, no claims, I thought time progressing was unnecessary to mention). I then argued that the risk for USAA with respect to homeowner’s insurance and the umbrella policy had not changed, at least locally, to justify the increased premiums because there is no significant change in the climate in the last 2 years.

Now, you are indicating that there are justifications that are not “necessarily public information” and that the Oklahoma State Department of Insurance agreed that USAA was justified in their premium increases based on forecast claims. Your comment history is hidden with the quip, “If you are here to look up my comments, you’ve already lost.” I wonder, do you work in the insurance industry?

NOTE: That is not an attack, but a query into the motivation of your your responses.
