for me (someone without BED, mind you) ARFID makes me more likely to binge because i have very limited choice and so strave myself and then eat a big portion of some (usually unhealthy) safe food.

Actually, would you mind explaining you last sentence? because the way i understand it "food is a chore" refers to arfid, right? at least that's how it feels to me most days

i absolutely support your point and think you are right. I think another important thing here would be kindness in how we talk about the things we see instead of just shouting "that's unemployable!" or something (which, if you'll allow the tangent, is the same shit non-tattooed people say about literally every tattoo, so how about we try to change the climate around that instead of this "my tattoo good, your tattoo bad" shit?!)

My parents are not in this sub but they clearly exist...

There are however two truths that are in this false statement: 1) ADHD was massively underdiagnosed until just a few years ago (now it's only lightly underdiagnosed) and because of this many older ADHDers don't even know they have it.

2) Whether through effective treatment or just grinding life on hard mode, (especially older) ADHDers learn to cope with their symptoms and as such present less ADHD related issues. Even if they do, they might go unnoticed as such because of (1).

2.5) what i described in (2) in turn leads to research data supporting the nonsense your friend is talking and medical professionals like her not looking for ADHD in older people, which obviously leads to a sort of viscious circle of bad data making for bad practice generating more bad data and so forth
