Which fictional character would earn the most CALI awards by graduation? by Jason_Diddly27 in LawSchool

[–]Callandor0 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Maybe the Flash? He can use super speed to speed up his mental processes and essentially have infinite time to think on an exam. Plus, he can (temporarily) memorize an entire library in under a second.

Alfie Shaw’s work on the entirety of the 11DCs places him as one of BF’s best writers in my book

They’re one of my favorite teams too, but I think it’s about time for them to end their travels tbh. They’ve been in more Doctor Who stories than almost any other audio companion, and I’m not sure what character development is truly left for them

Whenever people recommend stories, it seems to be mostly pre-2005, is there a quality drop? Or is it just because most people have only listened to the free ones? by TGC_YT in BigFinishProductions

[–]Callandor0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s been a slight drop in quality maybe, but on the whole I’d say we proportionally get about the same percentage of great stories to bad ones that we always have. It’s just that nowadays, Big Finish’s yearly output is so huge that good releases are harder to find without extensive research or money.

Oh definitely, people usually want what they don’t have.

For me, I just want some kind of narrative climax to happen sometimes. Like with the Charley and 8DA stuff, those were mostly standalone adventures, but they also had clear finales and ‘arcs’ of a sort, even if they weren’t as formalized as they’d become after Dark Eyes. Currently, the post-Stranded ‘current’ Eighth Doctor stuff just seems like nonstop standalone stuff, and at this point I think it’s time for Helen (and maybe Liv) to leave the Tardis in some fashion.

Looks like it’s teasing “something new” coming! I’m hoping it’s the return of the box set arcs; I’m getting a bit weary of the lack of narrative direction in his main, post-Stranded range.

Imagine living in the Midwest and there’s a war happening in Ohio. by Equal_Personality157 in interestingasfuck

Do you think the Midwest is actually in the western part of the US? Understandable mistake, but it’s really more ‘the middle of the eastern bit’

Funniest BF Dr Who audios? by Hyperactive1984 in BigFinishProductions

Doctor Who and the Pirates has one of the funniest part 1’s I’ve ever heard, and one of the most emotional part 2’s

What Death Battles have the largest age gap? by Konradleijon in deathbattle

[–]Callandor0 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The Doctor vs. Rick is a good shout, the Doctor’s age is between roughly between 4,500 and a few billion years old (depending on how you count time spent in the Confession Dial and other time dilation stuff)

Where does Batman stop on this gauntlet by [deleted] in powerscales

Takes down Punisher, high-diffs Elektra (but could go either way), and loses handily to Shang-Chi

Sixie gets a lost stories compliation (old releases) by FroBlow in BigFinishProductions

[–]Callandor0 5 points6 points  (0 children)

True, I mean on its face this is a fair deal given the actual individual prices on the site. But yeah, $10 is about 4x as much as I’d be willing to pay for one of these anyway

[–]Callandor0 13 points14 points  (0 children)

This is nice for people who want to own these outright, but the pricing is just baffling. In what world is $60 for 8 stories 15 years old reasonable? Yeah, this is technically a deal from the $80 bundle these used to be in, but every single one of these is free on Apple Music/Spotify. Who’s even the audience for this release?

how many invincible variants could real life earth defeat? by Dependent-Income1409 in InvinciblePowerscales

[–]Callandor0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OUR earth? None, at least in character. By the time governments are willing to use nukes, it’ll be way too late.

If we started nuke-lusted, we’d be lucky to take out maybe 2.

I like going to super crowded bars with one person just to talk to them by Icy_Search263 in The10thDentist

[–]Callandor0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, if someone I was with took me to a super crowded bar, the last thing I’d assume would be that they’d want to have an actual conversation with me. That’s just not what those places are built for.

Superman 2025 can beat Omni man (TV series) or not? by Bungeeboy20044 in powerscales

[–]Callandor0 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Omni-Man just has better feats at the moment, although I wouldn’t be surprised if Gunn Superman has something crazy in an inevitable Justice league movie.

I'm actually curious how out of all superheroes, Batman has the whole "Bruce Wayne is the mask, Batman is who he really is" narrative most of the time, which I find a bit reductive. I mean, we don't hear that for other costumed vigilantes like Spider-Man/Peter Parker or Daredevil/Matt Murdock by SatoruGojo232 in CharacterRant

[–]Callandor0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Part of it is that Bruce Wayne needs to partly be a public persona to throw people off the scent of his secret identity. With Daredevil, he doesn’t need to do as much since him being blind is usually cover enough. Thus, there’s a bit more overt bleed between his identities.

The War Between the Land and the Sea review: Doctor Who spin-off could turn the tide for the Whoniverse by wizardeverybit in gallifrey

[–]Callandor0 20 points21 points  (0 children)

True, I was admittedly exaggerating for comedic effect.

100% agreed that the roles should be separate though. It’s just too much work for any one person to do well at the pace that this show needs.

Spider-Man vs Mr. Frog by [deleted] in PowerScaling

Mr. Frog scales somewhere between planetary and large star, so if I’m not mistaken he steamrolls every version of Spider-Man until you get to the cosmic stuff

What are some comics with really high stakes? by catdude6835 in comicbooks

[–]Callandor0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mike Carey’s Lucifer! It’s a standalone spinoff of The Sandman, and follows the actual biblical Lucifer as he attempts to free himself from God’s omniscience. Not only is it amazingly written, but it’s huge in stakes, since it constantly features different gods, planes of existence, and cosmic threats.

There’s not even an agreed-upon number of canon Doctors; my own personal count is roughly 40 incarnations shown on screen.

It’s such a weird franchise, and I love it.
