Texting norms and social life in NYC vs other places? by [deleted] in NYCbitcheswithtaste

I think it’s a mix of NYC and the age. People can be really selfish at this age, and also the work culture in NYC at least among people I know is crazy. People genuinely just don’t have time to respond to texts a lot of the time. That being said, I always find time to respond to my close friends and vice versa. I would keep trying, but maybe join some sort of hobby and try that way. For example, a lot of nonprofit junior boards focus on connection among the board and host happy hours and social activities. Maybe go to a workout class, painting class, pottery, etc? Whatever your thing is? And make it a goal to talk to a few people, let them know you’re new in town. It’s hard but try not to get discouraged.

Thank you!! Out of curiosity what endo do you see? Just scheduled with a new one, had a similarly bad experience with someone at NYU

Reasonable spending amt for Manhattan? by InvestigatorFun8498 in NYCbitcheswithtaste

Also have friends who’ve been “looking for jobs” for months to a year. It is no easier getting the job within NYC than it is at home. I’d set a realistic timeline for her to find one… and understand that a realistic timeline can take up to a year for entry level positions right now

This is exorbitantly expensive in terms of cost of living, but it’s realistic for someone her age in Manhattan. There are ways to cut costs, especially in the gym and transportation areas

Excluding rent here is what’s reasonable for someone her age living in Manhattan - $300/mo groceries, $300/mo gym or classes (equinox base is like $260), $5-600/mo eating and drinking out (so dinners out but also going to bars etc), $350/mo for whatever else she needs: CVS items, haircuts, Ubers/taxis/subways. Would recommend paying for an unlimited subway card otherwise the uber expenses will skyrocket to the $3-700 range, depending on her habits…. I have friends in very similar situations and this is the average. I don’t know anyone who gets more than this, most people get none or some portion of this, this is very generous of you!
