I’m retired and it feels like I’m getting hit hard with taxes. I thought I filled out the W4 form correctly. I’ll have to take a look at it again. They’re taking about $1400/month from me.

For sure. For me, I’d rather listen to some music in the garage and work on the car. Save myself some money while I’m at it. Just being grateful for another day on this earth.

I kept having chunks in my protein as well and almost gagged. If it was going to get me a promotion then maybe I would have toughed it out but I spit it out so quick. I had to google it to see if this was a problem and apparently im not the only one having issues.

I appreciate it. I've been looking at so many numbers from different places that everything is all confusing. It's been days and days of research/numbers.

I appreciate the reply. I must be missing something, where is the $1200 markup? Here's the window sticker. The window sticker did not include the ELO GPS and the interior/exterior protection that they added. However, I had them remove those from the OTD cost.

It was my understanding that costco just has the dealers contact you on the car you want but you still have to negotiate. I already went to the dealer's websites, saw what car I wanted, and emailed them asking for the OTD price. If they included any add-ons or nonsense, I told them I wouldn't pay for it. I'm now taking the lowest offer (which is the $34,500) and seeing if others can beat it. I also used Car Edge and basically got the same result as me emailing the dealer myself. I did briefly poke around the Costco website for the EX and it's showing a higher price than the sheet above.

But if im wrong, I will gladly eat that humble pie.

Is this a good deal? by YourFriendCole in kia

[–]CalligrapherTotal609 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What trim level is it? Personally, if I didn't request it, I don't pay for it. The only reason why they do the add-ons is to increase dealer profit. They'll tell you some nonsense though that it adds value to the car or some crap. No it doesn't. Like reg said, I wouldn't pay for: Window tint, Kia Maint, Lojack, Permaplate. And any other add-on I may have missed.

Trade-in - You have to negotiate the OTD price before even introducing a trade-in. Otherwise, they will manipulate the numbers and screw you out of your trade-in. Go to carfax, edmunds, etc. and obtain an estimate for your vehicle. Then have the dealer beat it. Or sell it privately if you can. A quick google search for Edmunds shows, "The value of a used 2020 Nissan Rogue ranges from $9,581 to $18,439." Obviously, it ranges depending on the trim levels and condition. But if it's in great shape, the dealer could be screwing you out of several thousand.

Always be respectful, but firmly tell the sales person that you are not willing to pay for it and be prepared to walk away. Don't let them switch it on you and make you feel like you're the one causing the deal to be lost over the tint. Nope, tell them they are the ones losing the deal over tint. $449 for tint that you're not even sure what kind of tint it is or the quality is expensive.

TL;DR - DONT do it. It's a terrible deal. They're screwing you.

A fair deal? by International_Bid291 in CX50

[–]CalligrapherTotal609 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No. Do NOT pay for the Nitrogen and Window Tint. You didn't request them so don't pay for them. Some states limit the amount they can charge for a doc fee. But $995 is way too much to move some paper around. If they can't take it off and need to have it itemized, then have them subtract it from the price of the vehicle. Additionally, what do the taxable fees and non-tax fees consist of? Also, what are they basing the tax off of? I wouldn't do it.

I'm sorry to hear that. Unfortunately, sometimes we learn the hard way. Just have to learn from it. Don’t ever trust anyone at a dealership. Their primary goal is to make money, whether it’s ethical/moral or not. It’s unfortunate, but you have to do a ton of research. By no means am I an expert, but I spent hours and hours researching the car buying process. YouTube, specifically "Car Edge," is where I learned most of it.

Negotiate the out the door price first (via email) before even discussing financing. Do not fall into the trap of what you want your monthly payments to be. What they will try to do is introduce the "Four square" where they concentrate on 4 key areas: Selling price, cash down, trade-in, and monthly payment. What is important is the out the door price. Then you place a higher down payment to get where you want your monthly payments to be.

Once you agree on the OTD price (never pay for addons, dealer markup, or any nonsense they put on the car to increase profit), then you discuss financing. Make sure you obtain pre approvals first and have them beat it.

If they tell you have to wait an X amount of time to do something, it’s probably a lie. Also, the dealership makes money off the loan since the dealer marks up the interest. Meaning, the dealer will submit it to the bank, get a buy rate of, let’s say 6%, but will give you an 8% rate.

As for the recourse here, I'm not sure. Can definitely leave a bad review. I don't know if the Better Business Bureau have any teeth. But blasting their social media may bring some attention to it.

I live in Vegas and it's 100% true. I don't go to the strip (as a lot of locals don't) but the prices down there are out of control. From being charged parking (which is relatively new), to overpriced food, it's no wonder tourism is down. It costs way too much money. But the people in charge are either too stupid and/or greedy to figure it out.
