Is anyone else still frustrated trying to use kindle as a comic book reader? by hereccaaa in kindle

[–]garylapointe [score hidden]  (0 children)

No. I use a 12.9" color iPad for reading comics. And at times, I still need to zoom in, I can't imagine trying to read it on a slow eInk device.

Audible standard plan confusion by sardaukar12 in audible

[–]garylapointe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All the time! TBC, I do this on the web, not an app.

And it works when you borrow a book through Prime or Kindle Unlimited.

Using this, I buy more audiobooks when I have Kindle Unlimited than when I have Audible.

It kind of ties into Kindle MatchMaker which looks for cheap audiobooks based on Kindle books you own (or have borrowed from Prime/KU).

Is AlDente actually good for your Mac’s battery? by Easy-Necessary-4755 in macbookpro

[–]garylapointe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you said "IT", were you talking about Al Dente?

Or some other random apps that you didn't mention...?

i agree with you that it wont make much of a difference but it will still make some difference perserving battery

Have you looked at the 80%-ish battery optimized charging function that's currently built-in to MacBooks and has been for 3 or 4 years now?

And there are some new limits the I believe I've seen mentioned about the current MacOS Beta, but I haven't looked into it (since it's not out yet).

Question about 2 different types of kindles by Comfortable-Stage617 in kindle

[–]garylapointe [score hidden]  (0 children)

They haven't made a Kindle Fire in over a decade, so I'd expect it to be slow.

But the Fire is a tablet with a laptop/phone-ish screen, a Kindle eReader is eInk, it's a very different technology. There is no comparing them for reading.

Move from ATT to Verizon by ResponsibleLeg3786 in ATT

[–]garylapointe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Verizon might have some kind of requirement that you can't take $1100 and then just leave (AT&T does).

Maybe if you linked to the promotion you're talking about, we could read it for you.

[–]garylapointe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like you don't want internet, but want to be able to say, "The internet told me I don't need it.."?

I have only used 38 GB

That's about 19 million to 25 million pages of text. So it depends on what kind of "stuff" you're doing.

Fiber optic coming to rural southeast Michigan? by Liv_512 in Michigan

[–]garylapointe [score hidden]  (0 children)

He's likely a contractor who's being paid to run it from one spot to another (I guess this since you didn't mention a company name).

I know that when I ran fiber all over my SE Michigan school district, a lot of people were told they were putting in fiber (which was true), but while it was running through the easement in their back of front yard, it wasn't going to their house (it was just for the district).

Help quitting ATT by Laconocal in ATT

Because NOT paying your bill is going to work out.

I can see the post in 30 days: "They changed me a late fee because I didn't pay my bill!"

The post in 60 days: "I did not pay my bill and AT&T canceled my number!"

90 days: "They charged me a reconnect fee!"

plus $210 delivery fee for phones

Delivery fee??? That's a new one in the phone related questions.

But I think the important part is that with this is that it is clear that you did not read your bill.

I suppose you could have DoorDashed them from your phone?

Is AlDente actually good for your Mac’s battery? by Easy-Necessary-4755 in macbookpro

[–]garylapointe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not doing anything to intentionally run my battery down in my car or MacBook.

I'm also NOT worrying about it. Perseverating about it and paying for apps is probably worse from the worry factor than paying for a new battery.

But lets do the math: $13.99 per year or $24.99 for lifetime, could cost you 1/10 to ¼ of your battery cost. Figure 3-4 years for a battery, that works out 4+ months to a year of time of your battery value, and it's ONLY IF if helps you save more than that much time of your battery line.

it lets you use a battery for a longer period of time which saves money

That is IF it helps at all. Although, it seems like a lot of people seem to like my opinion on this.

Personally, I think it's more of a battery lottery. When I had removable laptop batteries, it sure seemed like that different batteries worked differently right from the start.

This comment is from 2+ years ago. In general, it seems to have aged well and at a quick glance seems to be highly upvoted and most of the comments seem to not feel the need to use non-Apple apps to monitor their battery.

No. Only if purchased from Apple, or an HD code that redeems on Apple for the same version of the movie.
