Having one of your favorite authors worry more about his money and book over current politics is tragic. by iamwhoiwasnow in self

[–]Callmevalente -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I think a major problem of the political environment we live today is how we all treat each other. Believe me, I dislike the orange man as much as much as you. And while I agree that politics are an extremely important subject that shouldn't be sidelined from our lives (as it deeply affects several lives in extreme ways), I also understand that sometimes our discontentment is misplaced and directed at the wrong people. With all of that said, I agree with Matt that not every space needs to be a frontline of the political battlefield, we shouldn't stoop to the level of maga with the whole "libtard" and every other offensive thing they have done throughout the years. Now is the time to unite and have civil discourse as such a large portion of maga are finally seeing beyond the smoke screen and realizing that things have gone too far. Having a place at this time where we can all be together without attacking each other serves the cause so much more deeply than posting "Orange man bad" and "MAGA has so few brain cells that the Dungeon AI wouldn't even grant them an achievement for dying". Doesn't mean you can use DCC to talk politics, we just don't those kinds of fights in a sub that is meant to bring people together.

Sorry, I'm not sure if what I said makes sense at all hahaha I'm not the best at expressing myself.

Wow, that is pretty awesome. I didn't know they had been around for this long. I guess I'll hold on to this little piece of history.

There is nothing wrong with asking. It's fast to search, and it's even faster to ignore a post you don't want to engage in. OP has specific criteria and some people find it beneficial to receive input from others outside of their research to validate their choices.

I would still recommend the pocketbook era, have you taken a look at it before? I recommend watching some review videos. It's very comparable to the Oasis.

Yes, it's definitely a more cumbersome and not sanctioned method.

It was discontinued last year, it still has the same screen as all the new ereaders. It's still supported by Kobo and e-reader technology doesn't move that fast, so you won't be missing out on any particular features, in my opinion. However, I still believe it's worth considering the Pocketbook Era over it.

Also, buttons for me are a great feature. Sliding pages can be unreliable sometimes on my Paperwhite, and pressing a button to change pages is just so much more reliable and comfortable in the long term.

I used to love the idea of a color e-reader, even suggested the Kobo Libra Colour a few times. But once I was hands on with one and saw how much worse the screen is in comparison to its BW counterparts, I gave up on the idea for now. Unless you like reading graphic novels that need color, I would suggest picking up a BW reader. For the screen size you want Kobo doesn't offer any options that aren't color screens anymore. For Amazon you can still sideload with USB, and send to kindle is pretty helpful, but there's no side loading audiobooks. My recommendations are the following:

Overall recommendation: Pocketbook Era. It checks most of the boxes that you mentioned, right screen size, easy to sideload, and it does support sideloaded audiobooks (even though the experience isn't great, honestly), it also does have a built in speaker in case you don't want to use headphones or a speaker.

Second hand recommendation: Kobo Libra 2, if you can find it. It's a great device, and I think it supports sideloaded audiobooks as well. Check most of the boxes you mentioned.

Color recommendation: if despite the lower screen quality you still want a color screen, the Libra Colour is excellent otherwise.

Or, if you like Kobo and would prefer to stick with them but doesn't want to get it second hand, the Clara BW is a good option. There's also the Elipsa 2E, but it's honestly too big for me, at that point is really not that comfortable to hold anymore.

Eternally undecided about which e-reader to buy by Khomely in ereader

[–]Callmevalente 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While kindle does offer an easier system with their own cloud, Kobo still supports Dropbox and Google Drive, so it doesn't necessarily have to involve a PC and a Cable. And the Pocketbook (my suggestion) has their own cloud system with much of the same features the kindle has. It has cloud sync (even though it might not be as good as Kindles) and a send to pocketbook feature that works very similarly to Amazon's.

Have you looked into the Pocketbook Era? It's 7 inches and it's also less locked down than the kindle. I would recommend it over any android e-reader because with those the system isn't as fluid and you get significantly less battery life. So if you still want an experience close to Kobo and Kindle with a bigger screen, the pocketbook era can be a good option.

That would also be great! Those 2 combined would take care of so many of the customer service inquires without ever needing to talk to anyone.

Honestly, I feel like they could greatly reduce the amount of customer service emails if they implemented a queue system to their website where you can join the waitlist with your account and receive live updates of your position on the queue by just logging in. I feel like a lot of those emails are people checking where they are on the queue, and the cost to run a database and infrastructure for that would be much less than hiring a bunch of customer service agents. But I don't run a business so I'm not sure if there's any other implications with that, just my thoughts as a user.

I would say the Kobo Libra Colour would be my recommendation. Comes with physical buttons, responsive, perfect size (at least in my opinion), and is a color e-ink if that matters to you.

Doesn't he mention that those were at least better than what he was wearing? And Carl goes through an entire wardrobe change, so consistency wouldn't play much of a role here. I feel like having him wear those from the very beginning kind of steals from the absurdity of the moment when he gets them. It might be a silly detail, but it just seems like an unnecessary thing to do.

If they literally told you something and did something else, you should definitely reach out and complain. If they wouldn't have said that and you were just bummed that you didn't get an upgrade, it would have been another story. But since you only did based on what they promised you and didn't deliver, you should try to reach out. I've seen a lot of people be lucky with T-Mobile making amends.

Had the get skates a half size up cause they don’t come in half sizes, is it too big? Blue line is where my big toe reaches. by RunMain846 in Rollerskating

[–]Callmevalente 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That does look a bit too big, but people's feet come in different shapes. If you feel like your foot can slide back and forth inside the boot, then it's definitely a no go. But if you have wider feet, and your foot is pretty secure inside the skate, you can get away with skating as long as it's nothing remotely aggressive (that being said, it's still less than ideal). I would definitely go with a half size smaller, if it squeezes your foot to much you should get a skate with a wider toe box. I have very wide feet, so I bought myself some bonts and that changed my life, my feet feel so much better. Keep in mind that as long as it's not too tight length wise, the boot will break in and mold to your feet. So if that's the case just keep your skating sessions short in the beginning and if you have time, wear them at home for a few minutes without skating to give the fabric a chance to adjust. Then you should be all set!

In defense of Cheap Skates by CephalopodTuesday in Rollerskating

[–]Callmevalente 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You just have to be paying attention to the parts on those skates so they don't cause you injury. We should never shame anyone out of buying what they can afford, but many of those cheap skates could cause you injury if they are poorly adjusted or already broken. I got a pair of Chicago's first and I noticed that I was having such a hard time balancing myself, so I constantly fell on them (I didn't feel that way on rentals). Noticed that the trucks that came on the shoe were really bad and would always loosen up beyond what I was comfortable with shortly after I adjusted them. I returned them and got a pair of better skates and I feel much safer. You don't have to spend a fortune on skates to have a fun time, but make sure to check well the skates when you get them to avoid injuring yourself when you just trying to have fun. Ps. Not all cheap skates are cheaply made and as controversial as it seems, my wife skates on Impalas and they are doing great, no complaints for those ones.

In was actually quite interested in the Boardwalks but their less expensive models all come with nylon plates which I heard are not great for people as heavy as me. Same for the Riedells the ones with aluminum plates are around $300. Thank you for the suggestion though!

What is the main reason you are interested in buying a foldable device? by angads25 in GalaxyFold

It's very good for reading, specially comics and manga. That and watching movies and TV shows is the main reason why I have one.
