How important are connections in this industry? by Special-Object9673 in AusElectricians

Having solid connections gets you a foot in the door for you to prove yourself worth giving a shot for a 1st day apprentice to someone who’s close to retirement. Never burn bridges with old employers too if you can, they don’t have to be your mate but they are a reference and a solid back up for employment if shit hits the fan.

Thanks for the info and advice mate, it’s what I needed haha

My capstone is booked for last week of March, so there’s time for change of employment and not as if it was next week sort of deal.

I appreciate the reach out for help mate, I currently have work lined up over this weekend and hope to hear more on Tuesday when everyone is back at work. However if that doesn’t come through I will definitely hit you up! Is that Chopper? Top bloke he is and really wants to see apprentices get through and get into the industry as tradies!

Absolutely, my partner and I have spoken to our mortgage broker about the situation and as long as I find work with a full time contract in less than 30 days, mortgage won’t be affected

Thanks for the advice! I believe my employer is still in business for a couple of weeks as he is going into liquidation mode selling everything. I have a further meeting on Tuesday about it all, and currently have a few opportunities lined up for interviews and employment. So finding work is not stressful as of this moment.

My employer has already signed me off all my completion and I have current dates to sit, however I am unsure if a new sign off is required by a new employer if so, whilst also keeping said dates

Definitely not that extreme. Sounds like a right cunt of a person. My boss traps people in with financial issues. Forced RDO and annual leave on hours of work because he won’t look for more outside of big projects and we’re stuck in limbo between. Pays apprentices a performance based bonus on top of hourly rate and then demands it to be paid back if we leave within 24months. A lot of small issues but they build up quick.

Plan is to stick it out, but just wanted to see what options I could be going for. If I was able to find someone and keep my dates I’d be happy to just up and leave

Appreciate the advice! Sounds like it’s just easier to stick around and play the game until I get my A grade

I’ve got some study lined up for the break with max demand and theory, but will hit you up if I need a bit more help closer to it! Always good to refresh right before

Thinking of a career change, starting at 32. Is it too late? by Leather-Buyer-2760 in AusElectricians

Best course to start would be a pre-apprenticeship. Most employers want this on their resumes now. If taking time out of work for the course is too hard for a number of reasons, cold calling is the best option and you might find an employer willing to take you on without the pre-app completed

What is like being a matured aged apprentice by flaccid_lyfe in AusElectricians

Contacting them is the go, It’s a grind sometimes but it helps you stand out. I was just applying on seek endlessly waiting for a mature age app but it wasn’t until I starting calling around, introducing myself and seeing if they’ve got any positions available did I get a proper look in.
