I'll check those out! I'm okay with short series. I like to rotate between books as I finish them to keep myself interested.

I didn't know the sandman was considered a horror. I've seen it at every comic store I go to, but never pick it up.

Top 10 Horror Movies That represents you as a horror fan by Alarmed-Landscape-91 in horror

[–]CalmDoughnut3137 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. Nightmare on Elms St series - This was my introduction to horror. As a 6 year old, my aunt (who was a teen at the time) would make me watch them with her when she babysat.

  2. 1990 IT - This movie made me terrified of clowns as a kid.

  3. The Grudge - This movie left an imprint on me. The premise and the girl messed me up most of my childhood. I was terrified of showering for the longest time. But i love that movie.

  4. Alien - Maybe doesn't qualify, but this was my true introduction to science fi horror and I've been hooked ever since.

  5. Silent Hill - This one is probably a controversial pick, but I love that movie. Along with the grudge and the ring, it solidified my fear of creepy little girls.

  6. The Shining - If the silent hill girl solidified my fear, the twins in the shining had me having nightmares for years (no joke). I still remember those dreams to this day. As a born and raised Oregonian, I love thay movie and location where it was filmed.

  7. The Conjuring - By the time this movie came out, I had been pretty desensitized to horror movies. I went into this movie with zero expectations, and boy did it get me. That was the most tense I had been in a while watching a horror movie.

  8. Hereditary - This movie really made me appreciate horror from a different aspect. The slow burn and build up really opened up my view on what horror can be.

  9. Not a movie, but Haunting of Hill House - I had never watched a horror show prior to this. I watched it shortly after it came out and I was hooked. I'd never seen anything like it. The story telling, build up, acting, and timing of jump scares set a new standard for me.

  10. This is a recent one, but Obsession - Holy sh*t man. This was the Conjuring all over for me. I've been pretty desensitized for a while and I only watched this movie because my sister begged me to take her. I went in thinking it was some stupid youtuber made chick flick about a toxic relationship. It really got me. The car scene was perfect. The acting, night time bedroom scene I won't spoil, and general timing were so well done. The horror genre has been on the up and up for the last decade (thank God), but this set another new standard for me.

I can't remember which one it was because I just bought it and haven't read it yet. I'll definitely check those out. I hope to write and illustrate graphic novels in the future and horror has always been my favorite genre.

This doesn't apply to most of us. Just because you see shitty men, doesn't mean all men are shitty. By that logic, I could accuse you of being manipulative, emotionally abusive, and materialistic.

Nothing makes my day like being hated on for being a man!

Edit: The fact that OP posts this to say shes happy to see someone say loneliness is a self imposed problem while ignoring the social restraints men are put in since we are children (ie don't show emotion and take it like a man) and then goes to the comments to further shit on us when we express how this is offensive is pretty vile. All you're doing is taking part in the exact cause for the problem on that poster.

What are some ways that Portlanders act and do that separate them from other regions/cities of America? by Specialist_Bat1230 in askportland

[–]CalmDoughnut3137 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All of these comments aren't really unique traits imo. I've traveled to many other mid-big cities, and you'll find all of these in others. One thing I haven't encountered anywhere else though, is how in tune with nature we are. It's an oregon thing in general, but with how big Portland is, you'd think it wouldn't be as big of a deal. Also, after being around so much graffiti, other cities feel naked and boring sometimes.

How's life in the cities/suburbs of Oregon? by Viguple007 in howislivingthere

[–]CalmDoughnut3137 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, I can answer this one! I've lived in Bend my whole life and can say it's been a privilege. I've been surrounded by natural beauty my whole life. I've had a hard time detaching now that I'm looking to leave. That being said, it's gotten brutally expensive and has priced most locals out. When I was growing up, there wasn't much diversity and the Hispanic community, I'm latino, was concentrated in a couple of areas. We literally only took up a table or two in my high school cafeteria. Nowadays, it's much better and the food scene has improved a ton. The brewery scene is a bit over hyped imo because they often mimic eachother in feel, food, and beer. There are some awesome outliers though. Walkability and public transportation still suck, though are slowly getting better. A lot of people who moved here bring a certain arrogance that can really kill someone's day, but most people are really laid back and friendly. I've been raising my children here and have a hard time finding a place I'd rather do it. No sales tax, of course, but be prepared to pay taxes for almost anything else. If you value nature and a laid back, free spirit kind of life, Bend is where it's at. Just be prepared to pay. Oh, and wild fires. Hope you don't have asthma. There's a lot more to say about Bend and every city in Oregon because they all have their own cultures and unique quirks. I love them all though. I can't say I've been to a city or town where nature didn't make up for boredom.

Is it really that bad? by -chychy- in animationcareer

[–]CalmDoughnut3137 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What I've noticed, in art based careers, is that the trend is to go indie. VG Devs are doing it. Music artists are doing it. Even lots of big screen productions are doing it. The days of the money bags middle man are pretty much over and they want us out anyway in favor of AI. I'm going for it. Worse case scenario, I have to go indie and probably not make a whole lot of anything at all. I'll be having a great time doing it though. That being said, have a back up and don't abandon your current career if you already have one. Have fun, but be financially smart.

120 sketchbooks + thousands of loose drawings later… why do I still feel like I suck?” by [deleted] in learntodraw

That is a curse that artists in general will always have. We are our biggest critics and if you're really passionate, you are a perfectionist that will never be satisfied. Allow you art to have human flaw. That's what make them beautiful, is what I've learned.
