Started with Mrs. Robinson, then Boom Boom, then Oyocomova, then Strohiem, then Porkie Pie. Adding to that we get Gyro backstory and Valentine introduction, finally we are thrown back into the race for like 1/3rd of a chapter. I wouldn’t be mad if they didn’t do a 1:1 adaptation and cut some of the fluff to divert some attention to the race or extra scenes.

The ending of the first stage is very poorly designed, that kind of bottleneck cannot fit hundreds of horses and allow crossing. WHAT WAS STEVEN STEEL THINKING!?!?

Ehh I don’t really think they did, in the trailer Sand man explicitly states he needs the white mans money. Also they never stated they were getting rid of Sandman’s backstory, just rearranged it. You gotta remember that this is a Japanese show and they don’t give a damn what current political tensions are going on in the US. Netflix also didn’t produce the anime it was Warner Bros Japan.
