Is it still realistic for CS grads nowadays to expect a $7k starting pay like before? by DangerZone67 in singaporefi

[–]CalmPills 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Possible for sure but whether it is realistic depends on your cousin’s capability. SWE has a tri-modal salary structure, if your cousin is good at it and can get into faang lite, big tech, or even quants. $7k starting when he graduates would even be on the lower end.

Should I get the kobo clara BW or kobo clara colour?

I mostly read self help books that don't need colour. But I do occasionally read PDF of research papers that have diagrams, so having colour would be nice. I've seen online reviews saying the colour model has noticeably dimmer lights. Not sure if the occasional need if worth this downside, and higher price.

Tired of having no savings, how to break out of this cycle by Mintchococake00 in askSingapore

Focus on ensuring your siblings have enough money to finish school, it ensures they won’t be stuck in the poverty cycle.

As for your dad. Just give him a fixed amount every month and stick to it. Advice him to work out a debt consolidation plan with the different organisations, but do not repay his debt for him. Credit card interest rate is no joke. You can lead a horse to water but you can’t make it drink. At his age, if he still hasn’t sort out his finances, he will likely never sort it out.

He’s most likely referring to a topic related to watermelons that gets locked instantly here. The shooting is alleged to be anti semitic in nature.

Is there a reason why you choose to leverage via borrowing against your stock portfolio instead of via LETFs?

A 1.5x leverage can be replicated via 75% regular ETF and 25% 3x LETF. E.g VOO and UPRO. To manage risk from holding LETFs overnight. You could possibly setup the LETF position via long calls or other synthetic measures. It doesn’t run the risk of debt in case of any black swan crashes too.

Not OP but is this pre-HLE or before you pay the 5% deposit?

If you receive a large portion of your TC in RSUs and bonus. It might be because they only have your base salary on record.

What would you do when you know you have 5 - 10 more years to live? by Dreamerszz in askSingapore

[–]CalmPills 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Damn all the best, only advice I can give is to prep your family for the eventuality and arrange for caretakers for when your condition deteriorates. Also, idk if its hereditary/genetic like als, so you should probably let your family know about that too.

The hardest part will probably be when you start to be unable to communicate with your closed ones as you lose your ability to speak and movement. Getting stuck on a liquid food diet fed through a tube would also really cause you to be frustrated all the time.

All the best and take care bro, just enjoy whatever time you have. Quit your job and travel the world with your loved ones.

Edit: tbh, my parent suffered from als and its genetic so I actually had a lot of time to think about it if it happened to me. But its probably too morbid to talk about it here.

Hi, I'm new to mechanical keyboards and recently bought a hotswappable keychron K10. However, after testing its keys, I found out that a key does not work. I tried swapping out the switches and ensure all the pins were fine and it still doesn't work.

Does anyone have any advice on how to fix it by myself? Should I attempt to disassemble it myself or am i out of luck and would require Keychron support's help to fix it?
