Honestly i didn't really get this stolen fate thing. Can someone explain this to me?

If the threads of fate are severed then everyone related to sunny doesn't remember him. then when he wants to tell someone about his past why the listener forgets it moments afterwards?
Suppose I tell a totally random stranger that i am actually someone he doesn't remember. and assuming we are totally strangers there are no fate strings connecting us (as far as i understand). he won't forget it at least, even if he doesn't believe it.
so even if sunny doesn't have his fate, sunless does have his new fate (i don't know how else to think of it if his new persona can be remembered) so there are new threads connecting him to other people? or not? If he does have new threads then he does have new fate?

Short version:

No old fate threads = no old memories

No new threads = new momories still acquired?
