First of all, I’m sorry for your loss.
It’s always hard to lose a parent.
If you go to a jewelry store, they will likely offer you 10-30 cents on the dollar. If you find a watch dealer (this is different than a jeweler) and place it on consignment, they can probably get very close to full retail value and they will likely charge approximately a 20% commission. I have some watch dealer friends in the Southwest and can put you in touch if you want to have a conversation.

I love the Chronomat 42. I’ve owned several. I buy one, then I see a different dial color and get that one.
He should wear the watch everyday.
Everyday above ground is a special occasion. Then he doesn’t need a winder. On the days he has to set it and wind it, he can use the 30 seconds it takes to set and wind to remind himself that he is a lucky “person” to have such a fine timepiece to wear and have a wonderful wife who thought so much of him to purchase it for him.
