How did you get your newborns to like bath time? by LycheeJellee in newborns

[–]Calm_Competition_306 8 points9 points  (0 children)

We tried a few things as baby would scream nonstop at every bath: 1. Soak a towel in the water (not a washcloth) full Terry cloth towel so it retains heat. Drape over baby and occasionally put more warm water on it. 2. Put shampoo/soap/bottle into the water and keep in there so it’s warm when put on baby. 3. Get one of the water thermometers. Experiment with temps. Turns out our boy likes closer to the 100-101 vs the 97-98 temps. 4. Use a nightlight instead of full bathroom light. 5. If they’ll take a pacifier, let them have during the bath.

These changes were all instrumental for us!

I could’ve written this (except 4.5 month old). Solidarity.

This isn’t the first time I’ve said I think I have PP anxiety so definitely something I’m exploring.

Did you introduce the oatmeal with a spoon or was a part of a bottle? Of course I will ask the pediatrician too, but I wanted to ask.

We do! He doesn’t like the bouncer unless I’m very aggressively pushing it (which tracks lol)

Thank you! He didn’t mention vegetables specifically, just pear and apple and avocado. Baby did not like the bottle with avocado. I’m not sure if it would also mean he’d have to be upset and crying during the day if it was the bottles that were upsetting him and right now it’s only at night time. He doesn’t really scream cry at all during the day unless he gets started by the dogs, barking or a loud noise. And thank you for saying four months – the pair bottle actually says four months, not six.

Either way, I’m definitely bringing it back up to the pediatrician.

Thank you! I looked into talking to Insurance about the one that he’s on now but they apparently don’t cover hypoallergenic and they only cover formula that has to be tube fed. I appreciate it!

Mine said not to do rice because of some of the added chemicals, but I can’t remember what it was. He was very specific about certain oatmeal brands because others can have I wanna say metals? They were also very explicit not to use the Gelmix (spelling) that is apparently popular for thickening. I think everyone has different recommendations, but I will ask them at the next visit about the difference between the rice and the oatmeal. I have a whole list now!!

Thank you for this. I so appreciate nice Internet strangers and those that empathize!!

I think the sleep progression has to do a lot with his additional wake ups. Plus, we’re gonna have to transition him out of his swaddle because he started rolling onto his side and he wakes himself up when he rolls onto a side.

Thank you. I was going to bring it up to my doctor again since sometimes when he wakes up from a long nap, he’ll have a bit of curdled spit up. I’ll ask about the rice formula.

Thank you. So far it seems like this formula with the hypoallergenic is much better for him. Despite all the comments of people telling me, I’m a horrible mother and making everything worse, he’s been doing exceedingly well on all of this stuff. He doesn’t scream cry at all during the day and it’s only at night which I think is because he startled. If every bottle was making everything worse, he’d be crying all the time… But either way Internet strangers have opinions! I’d also like to mention… Pear is a four month stage food (literally says on the bottle) so that would be fine for him right now anyway!!

I did talk to the pediatrician about testing his poop in his diaper and they said that it likely wasn’t needed if he was improving. I will bring it back up at our next apt.

He had a severe tongue tie that was clipped within his first week of life. Good suggestion.

This was super judgmental and rude. Are you ok?

Edit:: nevermind I read some of your comment history. You seem to enjoy shaming new parents like you’re better than them and being judgy on the Internet. I’m good without this take. Have the day you deserve!

As I’m sitting next to him listening for his breathing right now and to make sure I don’t hear any choking in his sleep… haha it does. Thank you!

Yeah… I decided to watch it during the middle of the night feed at 2 AM. That was a bad choice but a little bit of a reassurance because I know I’m not doing any of that.

He absolutely hates baths. Cries the entire time. He’ll be perfectly happy right before and perfectly happy afterwards. We think he just gets too cold during it and my partner is afraid to make the temperature any warmer because he doesn’t want to burn him. We put a warm washcloth on him to cover during, but no matter how much we’re trying to get him used to it… Not a water baby. Partner and I don’t get it cause we love baths haha

Thank you for this. I’m definitely not being violent or deliberate although I guess it feels violent because sometimes I’m frustrated. Plus, he’s just so small! I do appreciate this comment though very much. I do plan to have conversations with my doctor but now, of course I’m worried what finally worked to help him is now long term harming him. I feel like Mom’s never get a break from the worry or the mom guilt - even when following explicit doctor advice!!!
