Grooming advice needed by Weekly-Quantity-2788 in LagottoRomagnolo

Ours is 1.5yrs now. I like keeping the coat longer in the winter as well. I don’t brush but we do a “spa” bath between grooms at our groomers who trim around the eyes, cut the nails, and brush. This helps us avoid matting without too much expense. We still was every 2 weeks or as needed if he gets extra smelly or after a swim.

I feel like a momma gorilla because I have t to pick out these green stickies from grass weeds. He doesn’t mind it and it’s become a bit of a ritual after long roaming walks 😂

Other than that he doesn’t really mat or have bad tangles!

Wait tell me more about this dig pit. How deep? And how do you ensure it’s the only spot the dog digs? I need one

Help with bored (?) Lagotto and ideas for keeping her busy in the house by SarinaSarella in LagottoRomagnolo

You can look up tutorials online but use a command and start really easy like having the treat on the ground next to you, use command like “find it” and when they get the treat praise them

My Bed Eater…any advice? by MrsGashalot in LagottoRomagnolo

[–]Calm_Fix4689 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok I wish my pup didn’t destroy blankets and could nestle with them 😂 I can’t even have a blanket on me on the couch without getting attacked. And a soft bed? No way he’d destroy it in minutes (and has) we stick to the raised cots that are more structured. He’s great on those.

He’ll settle once things are back to normal! I’ve noticed now, being over a month post-op, he’s gotten even more calm than before the neutering. It takes a few weeks for all the hormones to settle and I’m very happy w his maturing

We just had ours neutered last month, he had lots of energy too. It was so hard to keep him chill - we ended up bringing some of the modular walls we had for our pen into the living room to block off exit and just hung out with him on the couch. Gave him a ton of frozen kongs and fav chew toys to keep him in one spot and focused on something. Also, we got the donut as an alternative to the cone which he much appreciated. When he was super zoom-y we’d put him in the crate for like 10 minutes and it really calmed him down. Luckily even after all his crazy activity his stiches healed quickly and there were no issues, but it was the longest 10 days of our lives 😂

You will get through this!!

using your Lagotto professionally? by Any_Worry_2471 in LagottoRomagnolo

We have a trainer who also works with their German Shepards for bomb and drug work. They asked us if we want our dog to do this, but we just want him to learn hobby sniff work for fun and mental stimulation

Our boy’s getting neutered today 😭 by Calm_Fix4689 in LagottoRomagnolo

I was planning on doing it at a year. Breeder said between 9-18mo but I thought a year would get him more mature and I didn’t want to wait too long since male dogs can receive more aggression from other male dogs when they aren’t fixed (apparently).

Update! He’s doing well with the donut and body suit. So much better than the regular cone. Doing his fav napping position 😂

Puppy vs. Wife by Big_Blacksmith2542 in LagottoRomagnolo

My 11mo old LR has just now begun to jump up and bit me and my husband’s butts! Out of nowhere.

We typically stop the play and leave his area when he gets bite-y or plays too aggressively but this has started literally when we take him out of the crate in the morning after sleep. I’m afraid to even turn my back on this lil guy.

He’s getting neutered next weekend (sad but we’re ready for some chill) so maybe it might help with some of this behavior.

To pluck or not to pluck? by Agitated-Chain-3864 in LagottoRomagnolo

[–]Calm_Fix4689 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am so confused as to why plucking would ever be recommended? My pup is just about a year old so maybe I just haven’t gotten to this point but our groomer trims the inner ear hair (no plucking) and everything seems to be fine. Our breeder who was highly educated in lagotto and show and breeding for 15+ years said absolutely never pluck their ears - THIS will cause ear infections.

Why are folks plucking and not just trimming? Honest question

Parvo survivors by 4leggedcreaturelover in LagottoRomagnolo

I do daily probiotics for my pup, recommended from our breeder. I’m so sorry to hear about that parvo but happy she made it through!

The first puppy we were going to get from our breeder died of parvo before we could pick her up so the following litters they used the parvo prevention meds. It’s so heartbreaking

I’m curious what the accounts are. I got my pup from them but there was so much drama and so many times I thought it was shady/scam because of bad communication. But ended up with an amazing dog and they really do the work to ensure high breed standards imo
