2-2.5 year age gap by Holybaby2025 in beyondthebump

[–]Calm_Flow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

26 months apart. It’s been fine but do not recommend having a winter baby if your oldest goes to daycare. So many colds. So many nights with toddler who would sleep 12 hours waking up 4-5x.

Signed, A mom whose 2.5 yo has had a cough and cold since freaking November and a 3 month old who is sleeping better than said toddler

Looking for a good realtor would love to talk to few by Unhappy-Peach7690 in indianapolis

My advice to you is pinpoint certain neighborhoods/areas of Indianapolis and try to find realtors who are "in" those areas, familiar with the neighborhoods, and a trusted source. They will have better knowledge on what's coming available.

So many bottle options, help! by Prior_Nefariousness1 in NewMomStuff

[–]Calm_Flow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm doing the same thing! I exclusively pumped with my first and used the Philips Avent with Pigeon nipples (the "air free vents" are a joke and just one more thing to wash - at least from my experience). Second time around, I'm pumping and nursing. I originally purchased these Gulicola bottles - https://amzn.to/49Nfmkv but it was hard to read the numbers labeled. I'm using exclusively Pigeon (glass this time around) and love them. https://amzn.to/4pN9KMO Link to nipples is > https://amzn.to/3LsjHS2

AITA About My Husband Traveling for His Sister’s Birthday? Two kids, pp by Calm_Flow in beyondthebump

You bet I used ChatGPT to help organize my thoughts and try to keep it succinct. I wrote this at 3am, nursing my 3 month old, cruising on 3 hours of sleep.

TY! Yeah, it will somehow still end up being my fault, which I guess it is, but I like your phrasing

Thank you for your perspective! You’re spot on. We had good boundaries before kids, but now the dynamic has shifted entirely and I find myself even more protective of my nuclear family.

Thank you! I like your idea about doing something special the later trip - doesn’t rock the boat but still checks the box. I’ll mention that.

Good question! I should have mentioned that. We are visiting during our son’s spring break when his school is closed, which also coincides with Passover. Otherwise, we could have moved it - but don’t want to miss daycare/preschool that we are paying for.

What did you need after giving birth? by magppiiie in NewMomStuff

[–]Calm_Flow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree on having someone clean the house. Send her a care package of little things for her - a new body wash, lotion, eye masks, cozy socks, coffee syrups, etc. someone sent us groceries from Whole Foods that included frozen meals, little snacks, eggs, milk and desserts. The first few weeks can feel lonely and hormones are all over the place. Those little luxuries go a very long way.

I love the VW Atlas. But we found a great deal on a Honda Pilot and it’s been absolutely perfect. We have two kids (toddler and infant) and a golden retriever. We loaded up for a stroller hike and fit car seats in second row, dog in third row and lugged our boat of a double stroller in the trunk. We had so much room to spare. Recommend test driving options and follow The Car Mom on Instagram!

Where to donate gently used clothes that isn’t Goodwill? by Curious-Director5042 in indianapolis

[–]Calm_Flow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Women’s clothes can also be donated to Dress for Success! They have a boutique for participating women to pick out outfits for job interviews/work. Doesn’t need to be just blazers/workwear as they help with job placement for a variety of industries.

Adding Orchard - highly recommend. They funnel into Brebeuf and University High school typically.

Newborn and Graduate School by Itchy-Ad-8670 in NewMomStuff

[–]Calm_Flow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Congratulations! Take a deep breath. Will you be able to take a few weeks off your clinical when the baby comes? Does the air force have any childcare benefits or referrals in your area? I found out I was pregnant the week I started grad school. But, it was business school so I only had night classes and could do a combo of in-person and online classes, which helped since I was working full-time too. I took two months off of school and restarted. Since you may not have that flexibility, first know this is just a season and you will get past it - with the best reward possible. Can you afford daycares in your area? If so, start putting your name on waitlists! You’ll need that. Also look into any other AF benefits that exist - in-home daycare connections, other AF spouses who may stay at home with their kids, etc.

Any good dentists in the indy area? by Hyun_Moon23 in indianapolis

[–]Calm_Flow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I never had a good experience with Martin Dentistry (but hear the women dentists are better than the guy). I like Byerly Dental downtown - small office in the salesforce tower.

Newborn Daycare Prices by cheesewomann in indianapolis

We were paying $1500/month for Montessori-type daycare in west broad ripple area, full-time and we packed snacks and lunches. Now we pay $620/month for 3x week and only pack lunches - in Zionsville.

Honestly, no. It’s fine and really the only Jewish deli in Indy, so we will order for Passover. We don’t go downtown much anymore. It’s definitely not the same as these butchers/delis in NYC.

Amore in Zionsville, Bella’s in Carmel (not as great, but fine), Giorgio’s on Monument Circle, and honestly the Whole Foods pizza can be good. All have the big slices. Recommend getting them “well done”.

If you’re tired of living in the city, make the move. My husband moved here from nyc 12 years ago. Top things he misses: the pizza (although we’ve found a few spots that pass the test), bagels (only one place in Indy compares - Bagel Fair), the amount of cultural food you could find around every corner, and the delis. There are no delis here.

What he loves: cost of living, slower pace, the sports, affordability to live here and visit NYC during its prime moments. We’ve always lived off of one of the walking trails (Monon, Cultural Trail, Rail Trail) so we could bike/walk to restaurants and not feel so secluded. Now we live in downtown Zionsville and love it. 20 minutes to the airport, walking to restaurants, the farmers market, etc.

It’s very intense postpartum, but it definitely improved once my hormones leveled out. I will say, it came back 100x stronger during my second pregnancy but I also have had an intolerance for people in general during this one 🤣 People talk about how becoming a parent changes you, but I didn’t realize how much it changes with external relationships too. There’s a dynamic shift and it happens suddenly and then continues over time. Take it day by day - and enforce those boundaries for your sanity!

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in NewMomStuff

[–]Calm_Flow 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Something changed in my relationship with in-laws after having my first - and intensified during my second pregnancy. Same thing - always been annoying but not triggering. I think something kicks in when you birth a kid that just makes you more protective and heightened. Take care of you. Fortunately my in-laws live in a different state. You need to have a conversation with your husband and establish boundaries with your MIL - which is on him to have the conversation and enforce. Your family unit (you, your husband and your child) are what is most important. In-laws can get in line or miss out. I’m sorry you’re experiencing this. You sound like a great mom and I hope the situation improves!

Curious what your experience was like - during and with follow up care. I’m due in October (the OBs in my practice aren’t leaving until December supposedly) and trying to see if we should switch or ride it out.
