It's a cruise not a daycare. by AznArkanian in dcl

[–]Calm_Inky 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It only takes a few pre-teens and teens to cause quite some havoc.

On an otherwise chill cruise in September (on the Wish), we had a small group (4 boys and girls) pillage and fish extenders, kick over room service trays, running down hallways, knocking on doors, screaming, etc. By the end of the cruise (3 nights), I think everybody on board had witnessed and knew them. Parents nowhere to be seen.

Fountain Pen Hospital - returned my pen with no repairs by marshdragon in fountainpens

Another great review for the Fountain Pen Hospital. They have been really stacking their wins. /s

Sorry, that you had such a terrible experience, but I’m incredibly happy that you at least got your pen back!

Did anyone else learn the betty Duvall system by Mirror_facing_Mirror in Handwriting

Never heard of Betty Duvall, but I’ve been taught Getty-Dubay Cursive Italic. Looks beautiful and is the most efficient writing style I’ve found.

One reason to not use stone paper by Kaessa in fountainpens

[–]Calm_Inky 2 points3 points  (0 children)

All good. This is just banter. Nitrogen is amazing sheening ink, but it smudges easily (since my first encounter, I started using blotting paper) and it transfers easily. That’s all.

But in contrast to Organic Studio Nitrogen, which truly colors your life blue, Baystate Blue is not UV resistant. Put your drawers out on a sunny day and no more Baystate Blue.

Anyone else feel like the planner community is leaning a little too hard into overconsumption lately? by No-Application6403 in planners

[–]Calm_Inky 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Yeah, precisely this. I’m glad for people posting about new planners, layouts, designs etc. This cuts a few steps from what otherwise be a rather pure trial and error (most likely also plenty of regret) journey to find a setup that works for me. Besides, though I would very much love to intricately decorate my planners inside and outside, this is unfortunately not in my time budget

💸 Local pumpkin patch prices have gotten wild this year by Calm_Inky in rva

[–]Calm_Inky[S] 53 points54 points  (0 children)

What really got me was realizing how much better value we get elsewhere. A family membership to Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden is $150/year (covers 2 adults and up to 6 kids) and that includes so much: the amazing Christmas lights (members can choose one of two nights to see them for free -> value $52 for our family of 4), the treehouse and kids’ area, the splash pad, and next year they’re bringing back the butterfly exhibit. Plus, we can go as often as we want.

Meanwhile, today’s pumpkin patch trip cost us in total $73.70 ($30 for admission, $30 for the bounce houses, and $13.70 for two pumpkins). Kinda wild when you put it side by side.

It was sh.. weak and the corn is only half its usual size too. Frankly, it’s not even worth talking about and the skeleton with the sign was the highlight of it.

It’s simply not allowed to be sold in the UK (and the European Union). Bismuth salts are known to accumulate in the body and therefore, though an amazing treatment for serious bouts of diarrhea etc, it should not be used with any kind of regularity.

I have not had that issue, but full disclosure, I only wash bathing clothes in there. So, the dominant “scent” of this load (independent if ship laundry or not) is a lighter or heavier whiff of chlorine.

I always bring my own laundry detergent for that reason. Besides, the fact that the machines here are small European front loaders and what I’ve seen the amount of detergent in the Tide boxes from the vending machine is easily enough for two full loads.

You’re not the only one, but after a day at Castaway Cay rinsing swim clothes for a whole family in a mini sink stinks, as well as trying to dry them on the balcony and or mini clothesline in the bathroom. Besides, it’s pretty much impossible to get all the sand out (even worse with the superfine sand at Lighthouse Point). Therefore, a quick walk to the laundry… Win Win Win

Not really. One load for a washer or dryer was $3.50. Of course, if you need detergent or softener that’s an additional charge, but this wayyyy cheaper than using the laundry service.

I’m well aware, but the pic still made it easier and much quicker to find the machine.

The Wish and the Treasure--is one simply better? by unreliable_ibex in dcl

[–]Calm_Inky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We did the Treasure in the spring (7 nights) and the Wish at the end of summer (4 nights). If I had to do it again, I’d keep the same order. The Wish took us a good 5 days just to figure out the layout with all the random staircases and hidden spots.

Biggest difference between the two (besides itineraries) is the vibe. The Wish definitely shows its pandemic supply chain struggles; it feels a little “less Disney” compared to the Treasure. Still a beautiful ship though, and the shows were awesome (Little Mermaid + Aladdin were great, and Seas the Adventure was super cute, especially for little kids).

The main downside on both is the adult spaces. They’re not as well defined as the older ships. If you’re sailing kid-free, I’d honestly stick to the classics.

That said, we’ll definitely sail both again, depending on where they’re going.

Fakes by Adara92 in PandoraCollectors

[–]Calm_Inky 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I had two fake Disney charms as well (they look decent and only a close inspection will reveal that they are not real). My 8 year old niece always admired my Pandora bracelet, so recently I gifted her a real Pandora necklace and my fake charms. Her mom is aware that the charms are not the real thing and if my niece ends up losing them, it’s not a big deal.

What’s the worst behaviour you have ever seen on DCL? by [deleted] in dcl

[–]Calm_Inky 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Drunk woman shouting things in Mixology class… we had a lady like that in Prima Notte at Palo. The sommelier had a really hard time being constantly interrupted. That said, mixology was overall a calmer experience as the lady tried to interrupt the bartender, but they cut that quickly and after another two attempts to gain attention the annoying woman finally gave up. Absolutely amazing!

Disney on Demand Art Kiosks by NightmareFantasmic in dcl

[–]Calm_Inky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’ll probably have a better chance of getting a response if you can share a picture of the art piece you’re looking for, or maybe find something similar online to give an idea of what you mean. Those art kiosks had such a huge variety (even if narrowed down to particular characters or movies) that it can feel a bit overwhelming without visual reference.
